Friends
« on: June 08, 2013, 03:55:03 pm »
It's funny how when you are young, you have some many friends you talk to on the phone and go out with on the weekends and have a great time together, but as you get older , things start to change. We move on with our lives, get married, have kids and pretty much lose the strong friendships that you had. I miss my younger years.

I am 48 years old and in a relationship, but most of my friends are doing their own thing. It's not easy to get together for dinner or even chat on the phone at times.

Do anyone else feel that way?

Oh yes I do! Not many friends around anymore. Most have moved away. I'm 43 and miss the good ole days.

I never really had many friends in the first place so I don't really feel a loss for what I never had. It was always so hard for me to make friends. I still get together with my only real friend from childhood a few time a year. I had a couple of friends in college that I don't see anymore but by choice because they were extremely negative and draining to be around. I met my husband at college and I couldn't be happier because I never have trouble talking with him even after 8 years together. Me and my husband take adult Kenpo Karate classes twice a week at a great school. It has actually been a nice experience to have some friendly interaction with other adults around our age and with a potential for making friendships as we get to know the other people in class. Activities I think are a great way have friendly interactions with purpose that can help to stimulate friendships. Do something you like and your enthusiasm for the activity will draw people to you. I wish I had known this sooner. =)

I will be 75 this summer and I still have close ties with my best friend from high school. A couple of years ago we met up at Lake Tahoe for a week of vacation together, went sightseeing, fishing, sailing and just hung out.

My kids are long gone from home and live in another state with their kids and here I am an empty-nester trying to get to the nursing home on a regular basis to visit my mother. My social life has been down the tubes for years. There is simply no way to prepare for these changes.

I've been thinking about friendships a lot lately. When you're younger you don't have all these strong political spiritual and social views that complicate things. I don't mind having a small circle. I don't mind doing things alone. The only time I even feel bad about it is when others try to make me feel there's something wrong with it.

i feel the same way.  Its really sad too.  I had some great friends when I was in school. We went everywhere together all through high school.  Now I barely see them only to say Hi, how are you, how's the kids lol

Some have moved away, some are still in town but have their own lives.  Same way with work, I had alot of friends but our store was closed (after 35 years)  and now we have all gone to different things.  I try to stay in touch with some of them but its hard.

I guess if they want to stay in touch with me they can find me,,,,  I tried  ???

I am not friends with anyone I was friends with prior to high school. I have a group of friends from high school & college and we try to get together for a gathering or bbq or something once every few months.

My best friend from school is still a friend on Facebook; however, we don't hang out anymore.  I went through the "married" phase where my husband and kids were my highest priority but now I'm single, again.

Tonight, I spent time playing cards with my neighbors and my boyfriend so it was like being young, again.  I love being socially diversified.
Have a great day!
