Bad Television
« on: June 02, 2013, 11:17:34 am »
Does anyone else feel that there are a lot of bad tv shows on the major tv stations nowdays and is tired of reality tv series.  What happened to great shows like Lost of even a simple comdey like Seinfeld or Friends.

I am so tired of the overrun realities like Survivor and Apprentice and most of the others are much worse.  Only one I like is Amazing Race.

Even when they try to do a good tv show like V (Visitors) or Zero Hour they are cancelled really soon.  Is America really the dumb and classless in their TV viewing?

I can't remember the last time I actually liked a regularly scheduled TV program on ABC, NBC, or CBS, they all lost me years ago. FOX has had a couple that were OK for me, 'Terra Nova' for one, that I enjoyed, but it got canned after the first season.  :(  I just can't get into the new sitcoms at all and for anything that I do like, (Bones) I watch on the internet now. I could probably throw my TVs out the window, except for the local news I just don't watch TV much.

I agree there are not that many good shows on regular tv the one you don't have to pay for. A few cming up like Breaking Bad and Homeland very good show. Also like Amazing Race and apprentice nothing to watch on sunday night  now. Big Bang Theory is the funniest  not much else.

Oh dont get me started on how worthless TV is. I love how the rerun the same movies, episodes, etc. There are bout 3 shows i actually like, and somehow always miss when they are on!

I love how we cant treat cable like a menu and just order the channels we want. I would have about 5 channels and gladly give up the 30 or so that arent worth watching!

I have to be honest I was of fan of reality shows back the 90s and early 2000's such as the The Real World, Road Rules and the challenges. As well as True Life, Made, America's Next top model. I was a fan up until maybe 2006. I just out grew of those kind of shows ..though I still watch True Life. I feel like the reality shows were more genuine in the 90s and early 00's because if you recall there wasn't as much drama. I can't stand these shows now like bad girls club and all these other shows that show a bunch of women fighting. I think its terrible..especially bad girls club like what is the point of the show? When it started the girls were suppose in up changing their ways and grow together, now all they do is fight fight fight fight and brag about being the biggest b****. SMH

The scripted shows aren't much better.

"Unreal" reality shows - I can't even stand the commercials for them.  I can't understand how anyone with half a brain could watch them.  I also agree with the MENU idea for TV.  Why are more than half of the channels on TV shopping channels?  Well, I guess I do know the answer to that - MONEY.

Reality shows are much cheaper to produce so that's why they seem to constantly be increasing.  Most of the shows I really like these days are on cable channels like AMC's Madmen and Hell on Wheels. I can't wait for the new season of Hell on Wheels to start.

I agree with you! Now a days even the good TV show has stuff that are not suitable for our children. I remember back in the day when you could see a whole movie and you didn't have to change the channel. Now mostly every movie you have to change the channel on part of it. Sad to say!  :(

I have never been a fan of reality shows.  I prefer to watch old tv shows.  There are a few shows today that are okay.

Reality TV has really cheapened & demoralized television even further. I'll be happy when the reality trend finally dies off.

It actually seems like Fox has been getting better at new dramas... I was a big fan of Fringe which seemed to be like X-Files but did more of a continuing plot-line throughout the entire series. I also like Touch although this 2nd season was more action oriented and less having amazing coincidences based on numbers. I also fell in love with The Following -- very much a mind bender... I'm hoping that even though the main villain was killed in the last season, that it'll continue with some more seasons. Hannibal on NBC is also a real mind-bender that I'm really enjoying. Although going with lguzman1's point, both The Following and Hannibal are definitely not suitable for children; I'm even surprised that these shows are on network TV. They seem more apt to be on a "cable" channel like AMC (thinking of other great yet violent series on their network: The Walking Dead and American Horror Story).

As for reality TV, I do enjoy those that are more skill-based than social-based. Thus I don't really care for the Real World or even Survivor, but those like the Amazing Race or the cooking competitions like Master Chef I actually do enjoy; when watching those latter shows, you actually feel like you are learning something in addition to just watching the social interactions among the contestants.

I'm really so tired of reality shows. I'm a dancer so I do love to watch dancing with the stars and so you think you can dance.  American idol has run its course and im not a fan of the voice.

I want a nice comedy like Sinefield........ I do like the csi shows and law & order    but there isn't much else on the rest of the week :(  so now that its nice out I spend alot of evening time on my front porch enjoying the evenings :)
