Laser eye surgery vs prescription glasses

Which is more effective, the eye surgery or the prescription eye glasses. I need to correct my vision. I don't know which method to use.

Personally, I'd take the glasses. I'm not too keen on someone messing around with my eyes.  :)

My motto is if it's not completely broke use the safer method to solve the problem & go for the glasses. I was going to get laser treatment; they had these great cheap deals but I remember my sis got her's done several years ago. It didn't help her eye sight completely but enough that her prescription glasses which was really, really, thick was replaced w/very thin ones. She liked it cuz she never liked those thick glasses. Only, yrs later, she started having problems w/her eyes, she had stabbing pain in the eyes & blurred vision or complete blackness. The lens in the eye had gotten lose & just had to be redone. Still, no way am I going to have people mess w/my eyes cuz there's stylish mega think glasses now a days. Don't risk it, you don't have too.

i wore glasses for glasses for a very long time, in 2000 i Laser eye surgery done and it was the best thing I ever did.  My daughter just had her eyes done yesterday after wearing glasses for 23 years.  She was next to blind, and now both eyes are 20/20 !!!!  I tried to get her to do it for years but she is one of these people who has to make up their own mind about doing something.  lol   She is just so amazed at things she can now read with no glasses  :)

laser surgery  or  glasses ?????   take the surgery anytime !!!!!!

Depends on what your doctor says, but I'd assume laser eye surgery.  I've had surgery on my eyes to correct another vision problem before though.  So, I can't get lasik due to scarring on the tissue of my eyes.

I know any surgery, especially eye surgery, is scary.  I had laser surgery a few years ago and I have never regretted it.  I can see 100 times better than with glasses or contacts.  Things are much brighter and clearer and sharper.  Just make certain you have a good doctor and I'm sure you'll be fine and glad you did it.  Good luck!

I wear glasses and I really do not think I would go for laser eye surgery only because its me. I really can not say it is a good thing for others. If you get a doctors consult be sure it is what you really want and you have researched doctors for this kind of thing.. To me nature happens, yes times and medicine have came a long way but my thoughts are just be very careful. :icon_rr:

Oh, if I could afford to, would definitely opt for that laser... and give up those glasses, heck yeah!  Had a friend who did it and his eyesight is great now for many years, he says he would do it again if he needed... made me interested for sure, just need to find the way to get there... perhaps someday with some savings from sites like these I can do it too...

Hello  While I've been wearing glasses since I was twelve years old and sometimes get tired of them. :BangHead: I still say glasses are safer and a wiser choice. :angel11: Many people try to avoid glasses because glasses are believed to be uncool. :bs: Remember those special words four eyes, geek. :bs: Today they have many different stylish glasses to choose from. :D You won’t look like a geek and feel unattractive. You can still look fabulous and live your life that’s what counts. :D :notworthy:

In order to even qualify for the laser correction option, your prescription really needs to be stable.  If your prescription keeps changing year after year - stick with glasses/contacts.  To have the greatest success with laser correction working, you should have a fairly stable prescription for about 5 years.

For me, I'm still sticking with glasses/contacts as my sight still is wavering - not by much, but I'm still holding off a bit.  I'm waiting to see how things work out for my dad's procedure in the long run, and waiting to see if the procedure gets any cheaper.

My father got his done several years back and he loves the freedom of no glasses (at least not for distance).  He used to wear the old gas permeable contacts and had to wait 6 months without wearing contacts before he could have his procedure done as the hard contacts shaped his lenses and it takes about 6 months for them to return to their natural shape - which is required for the laser procedure.

I might have to agree... I was thinking the same about whether to keep glasses or have the laser treatment because the surgery will eventually wear off. idk. It depends on preference
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

I've thought about having the surgery done, but it scares me too much.  Maybe I'll get the nerve to do it in the future, but for now I'll stick with my glasses.  I actually love the look of glasses, it would just be nice to not HAVE to wear them.

I know eye surgery has greatly improved from a decade + ago, but I am still skeptical. I might consider this in the future, but at the moment I will stick to rotating between glasses and contacts.
