Epiphanies on my 31st bday

I turned 31 today!! People keep asking me what I want and I know it sounds corny when I say "I have everything I want already; healthy kids, my own income, my own place and transportation.  I can adequately provide for my kids, I'm in my right mind, I can see, talk, hear, and walk....I'm blessed" but it's the absolute truth.  As you get older you start to redefine not only what's important, but also your idea of success.  I've realized that my relationship with God, my parenthood, and the love bonds I create with others is more important than I thought it was 10 years ago.  Ok, let me stop using this forum as my journal and get to the epiphanies (lol):

1) Being is your 30s is SO not old. I remember when I thought it was.
2) It's counterproductive to waste energy on things and people that in the end don't contribute toward my personal growth.
3) Don't lose sleep over what people think of me; as far as my faults, those that matter don't mind, and those that mind don't matter.
4) God blesses us when we sometimes don't deserve it.
5) Life is too short to keep putting things off.

I have more but I have to get back to my workout- trying to get a quick one in before I start my day.  Have a good one y'all!!

At age 20, I cared what about other people thought about me.
At age 40, I didn't cared what other people thought about me.
At age 50, I found other people weren't thinking about me at all.

I found being content with your life as it is provides a sense of "power" - being in that state, you won't feel pressured into doing things or buying things, and that will save you a lot in the long run.  You'll be able to make more rational decisions and enjoy the "treats" you give yourself more...guilt-free.

Being content is not necessarily the same thing as giving up or not having goals - it's just you are doing things you want to do, not doing things because you feel pressured to live up to someone else's standard.

I felt basically the same as you when I turned 30, and then again at 40 (I'm 42 now - the awesomest age ever!  It is, after all, the number of the ultimate answer to life, the universe and everything [for all you Hitchhiker's Guide to the Universe fans] - LOL).  I've found my life keeps getting better each decade.

As long as you eat healthy, moderate exercise to keep in basic shape, and challenge your mind with whatever your creative projects are - you'll be able to stay content with your life for a long time.

Nice!  I like it!  I have more and more realized that I never want to "can't wait" for things.  They can wait and I want to enjoy all the days until we get there.  My 3 year old kept saying he couldn't wait until Christmas.  I told him that I can.  We have so many days of fun and joy and enjoying the season.  Once Christmas day comes, the next day it is over.  Let's enjoy every day, especially those leading up to a great event in our lives!  Makes sense??

      Got some very smart people on this site.  That's why I love reading everyone's thoughts and ideas!   Remember when you were in grammar school, junior high kids were so old, and 30 had one foot in the grave. LOL  People 3 months older were really old, and now with in 5 or 10 years you think you are the same age.      HAHAHAHA

kapeh12 very insightful post! I too believe in the theory life doesn't begin til you are 40.  I feel that by that age a person should possess the wisdom and tools needed to be truly happy. You think back to age 21, thought you were "grown" and knew it all, then 10 years later you realized you still had a lot of growing to do at that age and even now.

mperez  It makes perfect sense! I personally like having something to work toward/look forward to.  The journey of life is meant to be enjoyed, whether you're where you want to be at or not because it could always be worse and there are value in the lessons learned in each day.

plennis Awwww thanks so much!!! I remember completely thinking 30 was old lol I look about 10 years younger than my age so younger guys hit on me all the time and when I tell them how old I am they start referring to me as ma'am lol which I like because I look at these boys like sons/little brothers. I'm quick to say "young man, that's no way to approach a lady, I'm way out of your league (hehehe) but if I was interested you would've made me change my mind" Yep, 30 use to be ancient, now women in their 50s are still hot lol
