Do you think the seasons should be renamed?

Should we put spring in the summer, summer in the fall and so on, it looks like they have been pushed that way by the environment.

That's the problem ~ we've messed with Mother Nature too much already!
Have a wonderful day!

No.  It is winter, spring, summer and fall, and it should always remain that way.  Why change it when it has always been that way? ???

I live in Florida so we don't really have 4 distinct seasons to begin with so I don't see the point in changing the names when the weather is going to do what it wants anyway

Technically the "seasons" follow the tilt of the Earth at various points during its orbit around the sun.  Spring and Fall occur during equinox where the tilt is neutral to the sun.  Summer/Winter occur when the tilt is closest/farthest from the sun.  This is why the seasons are opposite in the northern vs southern hemispheres - when the tilt is closest to the sun in the northern hemisphere, it's summer, however at the same time the tilt in the southern hemisphere is farthest from the sun, they experience winter.

The earth does have a slight wobble to it, so in addition to the global warming effect, if the Earth is tilted at 23.5 will be a warmer summer than a 23.3 tilt year.

They seem pretty off anyway. It's been almost two weeks since I haven't seen a sunny day.

No, I think the names aren't the problem. The weather has been very inconsistent the last few years, but not always in the same direction. Last year we had an early spring (or actually, almost no winter), but this year it seems like spring got here late. Although I certainly can't complain now that it got here, because we've had great weather for the past week!

The earth does have a slight wobble to it, so in addition to the global warming effect, if the Earth is tilted at 23.5 will be a warmer summer than a 23.3 tilt year.

Not to mention the changes from an elliptical orbit to a circular one.  Eventually, there will be a time when it is spring the whole year -- but that will only occur in a completely circular orbit and when the tilt of Earth is no longer at 23.5 degrees.

Climate and weather are also controlled by solar cycles.  We have more "wacky weather" when there are solar flares and magnetic anomalies on the sun.  But, hardly anyone, except for scientists, know this.  The general public certainly does not know.

No I do not think the names should be changed.  The names sort of match the temperatures to some degree and to change the names would cause massive confusion.  Besides, what happens if the weather were to change to reflect the seasons as they currently are now.  Would we then change them back again.
