anybody with Dogs
« on: April 27, 2013, 09:04:15 pm »
I love my dogs they are my kids. But I tell you what I have a male dog that farts all the time. He will run out of a room at times. Does anybody know how to get rid of the gas for dogs?[/color]

My dad always said "a fart is just a turd whistling for the right of way".  If my dog has gas, I take her out.  9 times out of 10 she goes #2.

Might not work for everyone, but it works for me!

Try some special food for digestive issues.
Have a wonderful day!

Is your dog older? When my doberman got old she had gas a lot. I would assume it's a common problem just as it is for people. You might want to ask your vet about it. I don't know of any way to stop it.

What kind of food is your dog eating? If he has a sensitive stomach, you might want to try something for dogs with digestive issues. Or perhaps sometimes specially geared toward older dogs. Especially if he has to go to the bathroom a lot.

Mind you, gas is common for humans and dogs alike, so it might just be something he has to get out of his system!

I've had six dogs in my life and we tend to spoil them - feed them table food, which is really not good for dogs!!It is hard to get them off of it once you start though, they expect it!! I would suggest no table scraps, no wet food because that has a tendency to have sauce or gravy which can cause gas or even cause them to be loose. I have a beagle now and she has a tendency to have Gas but, I didn't notice it until we started feeding leftovers from our plate. Try to keep your dog on dry food, maybe a little mix of a can to moisten up the dry, only about a table spoon or two. When we first got her and we fed her this way she didn't have gas once and awhile.

Rawhide chews seem to give our dogs gas more often then anything else.  they love them and keep them very busy so sometimes it's worth it.

We keep my daughter's miniature pinscher when she is on the road with her band, which is most of the time.  I have never seen a smarter, sweeter dog and we've had lots of dogs of all kinds!  When "Cinnamon" has an episode with gas, she is so cute. She jerks around to stare at her back end, as if to say, "What in the world just happened?" It's like, "I can't believe what I just heard or felt!" And she keeps watching, as if she'll see something going on. We are already giving her food for "Sensitive Stomachs"  and she doesn't have gas very often, but when she does it is quite entertaining for us.

As many have already suggested, you may want to consider diet adjustments to see if that helps.  Also, there are products you can get from Vet's and Pet Supply stores that help reduce the gas issues....similar to Beano for people.  If he is over 25-30 lbs, it's OK to give him / her Beano 30-60 min. before feeding time.
