My husband did it for his job, about 3 to 5 days/nights a month.  I don't think he minded it, he had an expense account, stayed in nice hotels, ate good food.  I don't mind a vacation, but I would not want to live in one for any length of time.

Longest I have stayed in a motel was for a weeks vacation. I couldn't live in one. Loud neighbors who are constantly changing daily, lack of parking during summer, maintenance is slow to get something fixed, and who knows that happened in that bed before you got there....

I think it depends on the motel.  Unfortunately, the roach motels are the least expensive.

I lived in one for 3 months once.  It was a very old motel - so worse than many of them, but it did have a stove and a sink in the kitchen, so I didn't have the problem of always having to eat out.

     I have had to stay for extended periods several times.  As long as I know it is temporary it's an adventure.  I always make sure I have at least a mini kitchen  wherever I stay.  A microwave and a small fridge plus coffee pot.  My son plays major league baseball, and sometimes we go and just follow the team for a couple of weeks, we did that when he played minor ball too!  We cannot afford where they put up the major league players.    All of my kids love to travel, people are always calling us the gypsy family.    But after travels it is always nice to go home to regroup!   :fish:

While working in a different state, I stayed in a hotel during the week returning home on the weekend - the worse six months of my life.

I stayed in one motel for two weeks with teenage sons. didn't mind it. The boys were swimming every day but had to do it early part of the day. Another family also was living there and while ubbies were out at the base we tooled all over that town and had a ball. I read the map and she drove Then in the evenings the kids all went swimming while a bunch of us visited. But on the other hand had to stay in a dump  for 3 days while the moving company tried to figure out where all of my belongings were and get them delivered Needless to say they had to pay for all my extra expenses. Because everything was to be there when i arrived. What a joke.

I actually really liked hotels, until I had to stay in one for more than a few days. I was on a road trip, and eventually it got boring. I loved sleeping back on my own bed. I probably wouldn't like motels very much.  :-

I did stay in a motel when I was younger, because our apartment needed repairs.   We had to stay there for three weeks.   To me it was a nice vacation, but to my mother it was the worse time of her life.
