I am not sure how old I was, but I think I was in my teens to mid-teens.

Since I was around 9 or 10 years old. My two older kids are 14 and 11 and have known how to do laundry for the past 3 years or so.

I started helping Mom with the laundry when I was about 8. I remember we had the old set-up with the wringer and rinse tubs. The washer had no lid, but stood on 4 legs. My mother would always warn me about not getting stuck in the wringer. The thought of being pressed flat, like in the cartoons, must have made an impression on me, because I never did get a finger wrung out!

Both of my parents worked, so my sister and I would gather all the clothes up and get them sorted out by around 8 or 9.    Around 10 we knew how to use the washer and dryer.  At 12 we were doing ironing, we even got paid .05 per piece.  Now, you just almost CANNOT pay me enough to iron.  At 7 or 8 we would get home from school about 15 - 30 minutes ahead of my Mom who stopped to pick up my little brother.  We also were learning to cook at a very young age, I remember making macaroni and cheese (from a box).  You use to have to add salt to the water.  I didn't know the difference between TBSP the tsp.  I remember putting in our bowls, it was so salty it was gross.  My Daddy said, "Oh this is delicious, you did a great job!"  I learned the difference in how to read the measurements that day!   LOL

I was probably 12 or 13 years old when my mom taught me how to do the laundry.

Sadly I didn't learn cooking, laundry, cleaning, anything until I left home at 19 and moved into my first apartment.  My mom's theory was as long as you are at home you don't have to do anything, once you're on your own, you will do it for the rest of your life, my mom never worked out of the home.  It was great when I was home and I thought it was so much better than my friends who had chores, I never even washed a dish.  Sure it was great, but once I was on my own, what a shock.  I realized that was the wrong way to teach your daughters.  When I had mine, they had chores to do, they learned how to cook, clean, etc. so they would be ready when they left home.  I really believe kids should at least have an idea how to run a house, not be like me, I was totally unprepared, I couldn't even cook an egg, I think my mother did a great injustice to my sisters and me.

I was 10.  My parents both worked which was unusal when I was growing up.   I was wondering back then why all the moms were home.

I don't think I learned until I was married but I made sure my kids learned younger than that.  Of course when I married I had to make do with a wringer washer so it wasn't all of that hard.  No dryer either.

I was 7 when i started learning. I would stand on an old wooden milk crate and help rinse, then  when i was nine, i was doing the laundry. My mom and dat split up and she was working 2 jobs so it was up to me to do most of it. Had a younger brother and sister but she whined all the time and was no help. Brother would feed and water the chickens, pig and goat while i would cook dinner. I made sure both of my boys knew how to do the laundry, keep house and cook by the time they were 10. Really helped out a lot as i might be out plowing and or planting until dark at times.  The boys were raise on a farm/ranch.

I learned how to do laundry at 12 years old.  But my late grandmother had an old iron bucket and a scrub board.  She made her own lye soap and would use it to do clothes.  I would prefer taking my clothes to the laundromat.  We have a washing machine here, and I hang my clothes on a line. :'( :-
