Depends on the crime.

I know several people who have. My closest friend was convicted of several felonies involving drugs wen she was younger, since then she has completely turned her life around. She was an addict and she says that going to prison was the best and worst thing that ever happened to her. The best because, it finally made her realize that she didn't have to live like that anymore she had been praying for help and asking God to help her get away from a terrible environment and to no longer be dependent on cocaine. She was arrested the next day and says that is how God saved her life. That was almost 20 years ago. She has been clean every since then, she is caring for a parent who has Alzheimer's, she is still taking care of her teenage/young adult children, and she works 2 full time jobs. The worst because, she still gets labeled as a felon. The reason she works 2 full time jobs is because she is unable to find a job that pays more than minimum wage because no one wants to hire a felon. I don't believe that every person who breaks the law should have to serve a life sentence. And that is exactly what happens. When you are convicted of a felony it stays with you and you pay for it for the rest of your life. We live in a smaller city and everybody knows what family she came from and that she has been to prison so no matter how she has changed her life, no matter what good she does for other people, she will still be looked down upon and judged by other people who are no better (and probably worse) than she is.

No, but I have went through periods of unemployment and they discriminate against that too.

They don't want to admit but the HR and recruiting worlds both suck and have a long way to go to be where they should be.

No, I was convicted of a misdemeanor but it was inaccurately recorded as a felony.  Now it will probably cost me $5000 to have that error fixed. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

Totally depends on the circumstances each case is different, just like each individual is different. In minor situations each Person should get a second chance and society should help, but do it again and you are done!!   8)

It depends on what type of felony. If it is crimes against another person or anything violent, then you will have a hell of a time getting someone to trust you enough to hire you. If it was drugs and you got yourself straight through rehab, there are a number of companies that will hire. So people, pull your heads out of your *bleep*, and think twice before you act out against another by taking their property, or doing violence toward them. It will affect you in negative ways forever! As for your weak bible reference (Judge not or whatever you said) save it! This isn't about judging! It's about a crime you committed that was bad enough to get you convicted, and make you unable to get work. Now you are having to pay the consequences, and you want to cry about it. I heard no regret or remorse, only blaming others. When I worked as Deputy in the County jail, I heard that attitude all the time. It is called criminal thinking! Get right, do community volunteer work...feed the homeless at a soup kitchen, or something else that helps humanity. Build a resume of such acts of giving back, to present to a prospective employer.  Develop some mental attitude of remorse ..not for your sad jobless existence, but true deep remorse for whoever or whatever you hurt however you hurt them. Develop honest regret that you chose a wrong turn in life...not because of all the grief it brought you, but because you failed at being a decent law abiding citizen. Change your heart and your behavior changes too.

I am 70 years old, have never been convicted of a felony, a misdemeanor, nor have ever been in jail.  I was raised in a loving environment where we were taught the difference between right and wrong as children.  I think how a person is raised is crucial to their making good decisions later in life.  I know that there are people who change for the better after having served time for a felony, and, depending on what the felony is, I have known of some employers who have hired former inmates.  However, I have also known some of these employers who regretted that decision.  I believe even teenagers and young people are old enough to know that they are responsible for their actions.  I could go on and on about the deterioration of this society, but many people don't believe that, anyway.

No, I have never been convicted of a felony and I do not plan to either.  If it happens, it will be because I may not have realized at the time I was doing anything wrong.  Or it would be through force or blackmail or some other forms of persuasion or coercion - I would have to be duped into committing a felony.

I believe people can turn their lives around, especially when they let God in, they can become completely different people. I am not proud of my past life, but I am a new person today.

If a person has paid for their crimes and have repented for their transactions, they should be allowed to start their lives over.
Have a wonderful day!

I have not been in trouble, but my daughter has a felony from 10 years ago and still there are so many jobs she cant get. There should be a time limit on how far back they can look at your record and take into consideration the crime and age when it occurred. She has very limited job opportunities because of it.
