NO. Depends on what the felony is. Somethings are hard to over look.

It is unfair. Some people just make mistakes. Having a felony doesn't mean *bleep* and should never be used to consider employment. It shouldn't even be on an application at all. It's bullshit.

I agree, it's like a downward spiral, the probation/parole officer orders you to get a job as a condition but it's hard to get a job especially when your officer makes visits and calls to your job.  But you have to understand this is a consequence of YOUR actions and you can't really complain for companies having their preferences on who they hire- you have to put yourself in their shoes. My solution would be either to start your own business or become employed by a small local business owner that may understand your plight.  Also, google "places that hire felons" and there is a long list of nationwide places on there.  Hope this helps!

I agree with the last two comments here. Taking away their right to vore is BS too.

I have not been convicted of a felon...however my ex-husband has a couple.  He has not been able to find work..partly because of that and partly because of the economy.  He was working for his parents but they won't even keep him on the payroll now.  I believe companies look at those with felonies as a risk.  Potentially causing there business loss in some way.  We are given rights based on being good civilians.  If you screw up...you know the risk is to loose some of those benefits.  We're like children...if we screw up something is taken away.  The older we get the more severe our privilege revoking entails.  I was in Aldi this last Wed and the woman behind me asked the cashier as I was bagging groceries if they were hiring.  The manager came out and this woman announced (loudly I might ad) that she has 3 little boys at home...she's looking for work but has a felon...then she went on to explain the severity of it.  She left in tears.  I wanted to talk to her about making money on sites like FC but between her haste in leaving, the pouring rain and my groceries all needing to be bagged she got away from me.

5 years after your parole ends you go to court and have the court papers expunged.  Then the only people that will have access are government employers.  No one else (is suppose to be able to get to them).  Yes it does seem to bad that once you have served the time, people feel the need to continue to punish you.  Especially since a lot of people get stuck because of not enough money to go to court, or some other bogus reason.  It amazes me the people with money who get probation and the charges lowered on really bad things.  A lot of the drug things are ridiculous too.   About the attitudes, my work hires people with records, and most are so grateful for the chance they are almost better employees.  You would be surprised at how many people in the oil industry and in fire protection are former felons.  And EXCELLENT employees.

I am happy to say I have never spent a day in jail period.  My husband spent 1 year in prison and he is on parole.  He has 2 years to pay off his fines (they fine you in Mississippi).  But people need to be given the benefit of the doubt.  It all depends on what he or she went to jail for. ??? ??? ??? ???

No, I have never been convicted of a felony or any crime. If I ever do, it will be totally due to ignorance or a case of mistaken identity.  I would never intentionally or knowingly commit a crime of any kind.  It is not in my nature.

I never have but I know people who have. To me unless it was a serious crime like murder, attempted murder or rape or molesting a child then once a person has paid their dues they should be given a chance to better themselves and they can't be expected to do that when places wont higher them.

No. I have never been convicted of a felony, nor have I ever been charged with one. I've never spent any time in prison/jail and have never been arrested. I aim to keep it that way. I have known people who have though, and I know a couple people now who have been. I think the system is screwed up, and often times people who don't deserve to be labeled as a felon are and it makes their life incredibly difficult. I also feel like refusing someone solely because they have a record (especially if was due to erroneous work by court officials, police, etc. or something incredibly petty like possession of a joint) then that is discrimination, which is wrong and illegal. I can see both sides, but often times it is highly unfair to the person trying to get their life back.
