TASKS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES
« on: April 18, 2013, 01:31:39 pm »
Lately, I have been seeing some tasks in foreign languages(French, German, Chinese) and since I do not speak any of these languages I tend to just overlook them. But all of a sudden, I see that these tasks are increasing and the rates at which they are disappearing is really impressive. So I thought I should ask my TASK DONS if the people who are really attempting theses tasks can actually speak the languages or is that there is some skill or tool that people are using to help them navigate through these tasks. Please elucidate if you have attempted them or know someone who has... Thanks in advance

There's a language exam and then even if you translate your way out of it, you'll be deep underwater on the task in no time.

We have members who complete foreign language tasks regularly but as far as I can tell, they speak those languages.

With that said, you can pick up French pretty quickly with DuoLingo (www.duolingo.com) ... then you get a useful life skill AND more task opportunities! :)

I'm so glad you started this thread. I've noticed all the new foreign language tasks and I attempted 2 of them. The first one was Dutch and the second one was French. First things first, I'm not fluent in Dutch but I am in French. I am bilingual...I speak English & French fluently. A weird thing happened tho. I was able to successfully complete several pages of the Dutch task but I couldn't even pass 'Quiz Mode' with the French task. Something is not quite right about that because I am 100% sure of my answers and I double checked them with the Google Translator and my answers were correct. So, I'm not sure who provided the 'official' answers for the 'Quiz Mode' section but that person apparently gave inaccurate answers and anyone who answers the questions correctly will probably be kicked off that task, just like I was. Unless they don't want any fluent French speakers working on those tasks but that wouldn't make any sense. So sad! I was looking forward to completing a French task since I don't often have the opportunity to use my French language skills. :crybaby2: Good luck to those of you who are working on the foreign language tasks!  :)

I get excited when I see things in French. When I was younger everything was French....we all learned French....now it's all Spanish.  :(

I've never done any tasks in a foreign language, but I have noticed more and more tasks appearing in Spanish, Itallian, Chinese and the like.  I speak American English and that is it.  I cant find anywhere on Crowdflower to hide other language tasks.  It is rather annoying when 2/3 of my tasks I cant do.

That would be a great tool for FC.  Being able to hide other language tasks. I agree that it's time consuming and frustrating to scroll through tasks I can't even do.
