I often wonder how a lot of people get by.  It seems many jobs around here pay in the 9 to 10 dollar an hour range.  You really do need two incomes it seems!  That's how it's worked out for me, anyway.

Many employers are cutting hours to under 30 to keep away from Obamacare.  I heard a college professor say on television that is a really good thing because that way many more people will have jobs.  He didn't say how they were going to afford to live on it unless they had 2 jobs and then there wouldn't be anymore jobs.  There really is no one any more stupid than college professors.

I have been job hunting lately and can't figure out how people are supposed to live.  First of all there aren't any jobs.  In our local newspaper there are usually only 1-2 legit jobs per day.  If you don't qualify or want those you have to dig deeper.  It seems that all jobs that pay a living wage are for people who already have that job and have been in that job for five years or more.  In other words, they don't want to train anyone to do anything.  Even if you have experience they want you to already be trained on their software, computer systems, etc.

I guess it is what happens when there are so many people needing jobs.  The employers can cherry pick to get exactly what they want.  Great for them, but sucks for us.  They can also pay $9 per hour or less.  Around here it is rare for a job to pay for than that even with a degree.

I understand your dilemma.  But, with the economy being in the dumps it really is kind of hard to find a "good" paying job.  That, and the fact of Obamacare are keeping employers from hiring "full-time" workers at decent wages BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD IT!!!!  Most people are settling for lesser jobs with less money and taking on more than 1 job, that's the sad, cold facts!!!  So, I just think we can "thank" the Traitor in the White House for all this!!!!!!!!!  Oh, and by the way, don't expect it to get any better either - at least not unless and until he's out of office!!!!!!

It sounds like things are really tough for a lot of you out there.  I think the economy is picking up a bit - so I hope it helps.  Life doesn't seem fair sometimes, but keep your chin up.

Hard to sayy...employers are picky, humans are smart in their own way ..but only some are the "targets" that's why i think some places are boring, just a place full of same people, same skills, same thoughts. The "smarter" people need to open up more for others too...

I don't know how people get by, either.  I live with family to help keep costs down.

I know what you mean. I often wonder about all the people that live in nice houses and how it was possible. I am on social security disablity right now and really don't know how i would of survived without it.

Newspapers are not the places to be looking for jobs anymore! They're much more expensive to advertise in and get fewer results, so companies put everything online.

Look on online job sites like Monster.com. More than that though, if you know what kind of job you're searching for, research companies and either apply directly via their websites or GO TO the company to discuss the job opportunity and apply there! You've got to be really pro-active these days because the job certainly isn't going to just come to anyone.  Good luck!

I agree the job market sucks here as well. My husband has been looking and hasn't had any luck. We live in a small town with mostly fast food joints to work at and they all seem to only hire teenagers. ::)

I think you hit the nail on the head.  I have been trying to let everyone I know that I am looking so that maybe somebody will think of me when a job is mentioned.  I also hang out on a lot of forums where jobs might be mentioned.  I don't bother looking in the paper.  I search online every day and have applied for probably 40 jobs in the last two weeks.  So far, I got one offer.  It was from Kelly to work from home taking calls, but the pay was $9.15 per hour and I had to go through 4 weeks of training and then they would tell me what my shift and days were going to be.  I would have taken it if it allowed me to work 2 jobs, but with no way to know what they schedule would be I might take myself out of the running for other jobs.  How can you accept a job if you don't know the hours.  I mean, actually I would do that, but not for $9.15 an hour.

Anyone who pays rent, or has a house and a car and eats, can't possibly survive on that.  Again, it's not that I don't have skills.  I have tons, plus a degree and 30 years work experience.  It just comes down to a sucky economy because I keep hearing other people complaining about the same thing.

I don't know how people make it on $10/hour either, especially if you have a family.  I do know that most states have job search sites and post openings, educational requirements, salary ranges, etc.  For example  iowajobs.org for the state of Iowa.  Its really very comprehensive.
