Have you ever known of a mother that was like the mother portrayed in the movie Mommie Dearest (about Joan Crawford)?

I've seen a few that would come real close.  That movie made me despise Joan Crawford.
Have a wonderful day!

I have known some women who makes Joan Crawford look angelic.  She acted in two movies:  What Happened to Mary Jane?  and Mommie Dearest.  My late aunt married a man with 6 children, she had 4, they had 1, and she mistreated his children to the point they left home.  All of them forgave her except the fourth daughter.  She said what she did to her she would never forgive her.  The bad point is, the husband backed up my aunt. ??? :o ???

Sadly, I have known women (and men) who made Joan Crawford look like a saint.  Oddly, my husband and I just watched Mommie Dearest last night.  I plan on watching "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" today.  Davis is freaky in that movie.

Huh? Oh, you must be talking about my grandmother. When I was 5 she stabed me with a fork because I didn't want to eat pancakes (my little sister, upon viewing this, ate her breakfast very quickly)

Faye Dunaway played Joan in Mommie Dearest.  I didn't like watching that movie, it was too close to home.  >:(

That was most definitely a very intense movie to watch.  She played the role so well, it makes one tend to not like her as a person.

Real life Mommie Dearest? Yes,my mother. I love her but everytime I watch this movie, I place her in Joan's place and it's my life. But to be fair my mother also suffers with Bi-polar. This condition makes it hard at times to tolerate her,but I do...

I frequently read the advice columns in our local newspaper and see a lot of emotional abuse and manipulation described from traumatized children but also from mothers (and step-parents) about their children.  Family dynamics are tricky situations.  When a family member has a mental illness or severe emotional issues, it is a wonder anyone in that unit emerges unscathed.

Fortunately I do not.  I can be rather strict, but Joan Crawford went above and beyond.  Mainly due to the fact of a severe lack of mental stabilization.  You can shake your head at me all you want, but I do believe in spanking.  I was spanked as a kid and it accomplished what I would like to with my kids.  Not everyone feels that way and that's fine.  But I can't stand when people hear that you spank your kid and look at you like you're Joan.
