Pandora is not Free
« on: March 20, 2013, 06:12:55 am »
Hello all, I had to come and tell you guys about Pandora; This morning as usual I turned on my Pandora and about 30 minutes in I received a pop up and an email that: Pandora only allows 40hrs of mobile listening for free monthly. I have the option of paying $.99 (one-time Fee) to continue thru the rest of the month. It isn't ad free after paying $.99. They stated that the online pandora (desktop version) is unlimited all month. What the heck is this :dontknow:
Did anyone else know that this was the case? :sad1:

My teenager uses Pandora all the time when she is on the computer doing homework and she hasn't said anything to me about it.

Everything has a catch these days, and they need to make their money too.  It isnt a bad deal, a dollar a month to listen to unlimited music.  If it bothers you that much turn on the radio lol

It lets you have true unlimited usage on the computer but not on your mobile device. They only give you 40 hours on your mobile device, The $.99 is for the rest of this (March)month not per month. it's $3.99/mo for the Pandora One without ads. This $.99 still has ads and interruptions. I will just use my hubby's phone. LOL he never uses pandora

Sometimes it pays to read the fine print.  I will try this site, because .99 cents is not bad.

Thanks for the clue-in.  I thought Pandora was free; it was on my Kindle Fire, but I am waiting on a new replacement and an upgrade because my Kindle Fire won't charge.   I have saved some songs on it, but I guess I can skip it all together. :icon_rr:

I think the assumption is that more people are willing to spend money on smartphones than if they listen from a computer. They have to make some money some how so as long as I can listen some for free that is fine with me.

I remember reading that in their ToS, but I've actually got IHeartRadio app on my smart phone so that I can listen to different radio stations on my phone. I've found that the Pandora app on my phone cuts out quite a bit whereas IHeartRadio seems to stream much more smoothly. And when I'm on my computer, I tend to use Grooveshark... Although the songs on Pandora tend to be higher quality, with Grooveshark you can replay songs that you really enjoy or even setup a playlist.

I only use Pandora on my computer, not my phone, so I have never had a problem having to pay for anything.  It's all free for me.

That's the way it used to work online as well. Not really a big deal.

I only use Pandora on my computer, so I have no problem.  I would probably pay for it, anyway.  I love Pandora.

Luckily, there is an alternative to Pandora: Songza. And, it is awesome!

A dollar a month for high quality audio doesn’t seem like a high price to pay. It’s up to you if you like to continue to stick with Pandora or not. I don’t really use Pandora that much.
