Probably getting paid to post here although that really isn't a miracle since it happens once you have enough to cash out and you take the proper steps to do so.  So perhaps "miracles" happen when people get off their duffs and actually do something to make something they desire happen?

I believe in miracles in the non-religious aspect such as something happening that is near impossible. But I don't believe in god so no I don't believe in miracles that are made possible by god.

OK, my mother is extremely religious and explained to me that through the "miracle of prayer" that she did not have lung cancer. According to the docs at the time, they said that they were only lesions in her lungs. So she went off on her rant saying  " Praise the Lord!!! I don't have cancer, just lesions, and it was because of prayer!!"  She swore up and down that I needed to get religion in my life and that God works in mysterious ways, to which I said "sure Mom.....whatever works for you, but it ain't gonna happen.
 
Two weeks later, a second scan was done, showing that she was in stage 2 cancer. I had nothing to say. So no, I don't believe in miracles, I believe in the real....I put all of my faith in her strength and the docs that are taking care of her now. Her cancer is very real, and no amount of prayer is gonna take it away. I don't want to change her beliefs if it gives her comfort, but my beliefs will remain solid, and the subject of religion and miracles are non-existent in my life. I believe you make your own fate, and it is influenced by your interactions with others in this world, family, friends, co-workers, even complete strangers-Not by belief in miracles.


Reality sucks, deal with it! No hiding behind a lull of faith and miracles.

Agreed, however I will say that people like us must be careful how to tread with the religious when it comes to ailments. I do believe that if them believing in such things does make them feel better or gives them a boost of confidence in their current stuggle, not much harm is coming from it (unless they're giving 10,000$ to a faith healer or something). Sometimes it's more moral to just nod and play along.

Sorry to hear of your mother's predicament though. I truly hope it is treatable and that she recovers from it. Many people do!

I agree with your advice.  In grad school I researched the relationship between stress and cancer and am convinced that a positive mind set can help your body fight disease.  Has to do with boosting the immune system.  In any event it's important not to take away hope. You can present someone with the realities of the situation but emphasize that each person is unique.  How the individual's illness progresses will be their own unique version of what is "usual" as well.

if people always say negative stuff in their lives... its their own fault for not thinkin postive.. ur life will suck when thinking it that way... haveing miracles and faith dont hurt.. just let them be.. jeeze..

  There is a big difference from being negative all the time to being real. Being real about life has its positive moments and it's negative moments. It's a mixture, which gives you a choice, How you take it or handle it is up to you.   Just because my mother has cancer doesn't mean that I am thinking the worst all of the time, I just don't sugar coat the true meaning of things, because that will set you up for a major dissapointment later.(reguardeless of her faith in God in which I totally disagree with).
