Should I or shouldn't I?
« on: March 07, 2013, 08:26:22 am »
I am a member of the church choir.  I have been a member for a year, but I am thinking about getting out.  Inasmuch as I love to sing, we have members who are tone deaf and sound like an owl stratching on a hot tin roof.  One member likes to sing from CD's after she has written it on paper.  I can see you learning a song, but everytime she gets up that paper has to be in her hand.  We are having a church anniversary and these people are so backwards they cannot agree on a color to go with black.  We have 9 days (the anniversary is on March 17) from today, and they are still arguing about color.  At this point, I have had it.  I can take so much, but to me this is redundant.  There is one member that wants to be the boss over everybody.  We bumped heads because I cannot stand all this flip-flopping.  She singles me out for everything.  I am ready to get out and want your opinion or take on what I should do. ??? :o ???

You are going to find that anywhere you go. I have sister the same way, She thinks she is the boss and everything should be her way. Man is it hard putting up with her.One of these days i will give her what for again and then she whines to my dad that i am picking on her. So for the most part when she comes down from alaska throwing her weight around i just stay home, then after she leaves start picking up the pieces and putting everything to right again, S he is only here 2 weeks every 4-5 months. What she dosen't relize is that i am here all the time doing for my dad, taking to all his appointments, cooking picking up, helping my hubby get wood cut for the house and it goes on. But she is the only one who does anything for him. Sometimes have to ask the good Lord to help keep my mouth zipped.

:angel11: I don't know why but you find that in a lot of churches. I would ask God for guidance and pray about it before I make a decision. I know I went through a situation similar at the church I had gone to since I was 5 years old. Too many back stabbers and get your way Christians attended. When my Mom died in 1997 I couldn't take it any longer, so my hubby and I left. Now I am praying that God will show us a church where they don't have all of that.

People join the choir to sing praises to God.  Most of the time those people can sing.  Sometimes not.  I've been  a member of our church choir for decades and we've had our share of good singers and not-so-good.  I try to be tolerant because their heart is in the right place.  However, the arguing is totally unacceptable.  I wonder if you could talk with choir director and the pastor.
The pastor could make a visit to practice and give them holy hell.  Kidding about that, but a visit from the pastor my be helpful.
Don't quit until you given it all you've got.

I think you should pray about it. Remember to who you are singing too and serving. (God) I am in choir too and yeah there are days when I to want to get out, but thing Jesus suffered more and this is nothing to what he suffered and I'm still at it. Take care and I hope you get your answer soon.  :angel11:

If you like to sing you can sing God's praises by yourself to him. You don't have to do it in a choir setting. If this group is upsetting you, the best thing you can do for yourself is to leave it and hopefully be happy.

To get out of a church thing you really should decide on your own but I will give you some things to think about if you don't mind.  First, if you are having that kind of problem for church things how christian is that?  Now you also have to consider that it says in the bible we are not perfect.  To me the best thing to do is talk to these other members tell them how you feel, if nothing changes go to your pastor or preacher which ever you have and dicuss it with that person if you don't see any changes maybe this paticular church isn't for you and your beliefes.  You can't except part of a church without accepting the other part. Do some soul searching read the scriptures and seek out your answer through your research.  I hope this has helped you.  We are all supose to be brothers and sisters in our congergation so we know there will be conflict but not so much that we loose our christian attitude.

Have you tried talking to your Pastor about this problem. Maybe he will have some words or wisdom for you. Good luck.

You can spend a lot of time thinking about what to do, you love to sing, but other aspect's of this is bothering you, having time away from the choir for awhile might help you!
