Calling all bird watchers
« on: March 06, 2013, 07:37:32 am »
Birds...love to watch them.  I live in Iowa and have been getting into feeding and watching them. Just trying to tell what species is a challenge.  The cardinals are out in full force getting ready for spring and the blue-jays and right there with them. ;D

We have a feeder hanging from our dogwood tree out front. I love watching the different species of birds. We've had cardinals, blue jays, robins, woodpeckers, mourning doves, chickadees, and several different ones that I don't even know.  :D

The Cardinals are beautiful. Most of the winter I have been watching them, the Blue Jays and some other little bird I am trying to identify. I have just started seeing the Starlings out in full force again. Even though I don't think they migrate...could be wrong. Wondering if seeing them is a sign of Spring? Can't wait for the Robin's!!!! That's always a true sign of Spring here  ;D

We have a lot of finches and hummingbirds.  In our backyard, we have a hummingbird nest with two hatchlings.  My deviant art account has pictures of the some the birds.  If anyone is interested, let me know, and I will post a link.

We have a hummingbird feeder out in the backyard. They're really fun to watch.

I used to feed the birds all of the time but the price of sunflower seeds (which is what I used most of) has gone so high that I had to quit feeding them.

I live in Center Pennsylvania and I had just started to notice the chirps of spring birds in the are, up until the giant wind chill today. It was supposed to snow up to ten inches, but we didn't get any, just a lot of cold gusts of wind. Now all the spring birds have fallen silent again!

During the spring and fall I enjoy watching the migratory birds like the ducks, cranes and geese as they make it south in the fall and north in the spring.

Yes I used to be able to  feed the birds.  My husband built a birdhouse on a tall pole ,just for that, but what I didnt know  :dontknow:  was that the bird seed drew those pesty squirrels,There were too many of them hanging around (which my hubby didnt like) :angry7: so I had to quit  >:(  I hated that because Il loved to sit backand watch the pretty birds feed!! :sad1:
