I think some people just hear the profanity and are just turned off....But people need to listen to the words to hear the message.

I don't like it because I can't relate to it at all. Most of the lyrics are repugnant, bland and just plain offensive. And actually rap music is really popular, unfortunately. I grew up when rock was on the back burner...  :(

I am not a fan of rap music because they degrade women in the lyrics.  I don't like the profanity used either.  That is more my daughter's genre and most young people.  I am older than most people and believe that men should treat women with respect.  After all, you have to give respect in order to get respect. ??? :o ???

Most people don't like rap because they are only familiar with the gangster type IMAGE (and I stress image b/c most of these men go home to their wives and kids instead of partying it up all night as the videos would have you believe).  Rap music often contains content that is offensive or violent, and that type of rap is what gets play in mainstream media.

A lot of people aren't aware of the positive rappers such as Common, Tupac, and others who have rapped about more than violence and sex.

Ironically, other genres of music represent the same traits rap is most commonly known for but aren't given such a bad wrap.

I love listening to rap.  I also listen to the 40's, jazz, classical and dance.

It helps if you listen to rap music with a bit of humor.  I often find myself chuckling to myself hear and there when I hear some of the things that are being said in the rap. Most songs are about boasting and bragging so you will hear some obnoxious or over the top things being said....but then u have to remember theres rappers like Common , Q tip , Talib Kweli and others who rap about their community and real life experiences that dont always involve disrespecting women and toting around big guns .

Find an artist who you can relate to and im sure you can appreciate something that hits close to home.

Remember around 2004 there was a female duo from LONDON called Floetry and the lyrics are so beautiful .  A hit song they had you may know is " Say Yes- Floetry" If its not familiar you should youtube it. Its beautiful and sensual
