When Check Expire?
« on: March 01, 2013, 09:09:44 pm »
I just wanted to know for how long or how many days that i can keep the check? I already recieved my first check but
haven't cash it yet. So im just thinking for how long that i can keep the check. I've been busy taking care my two sick
children this entired week and i could not drive out to bank yet. So i don't know when the check expire. Is it same as the
others that expired after 60-90 days? :dontknow:

My first payout was by paper check and it said "void after 90 days".  Now I get my payments directly in my Paypal.  I don't have a car so that's so much easier.

It should say right on the check how many days you have to cash it, usually it's around 90 days.

I don't understand why a person would wait to cash in a check though. It just doesn't make sense to me.

She said it was because she was taking care of her two sick kids. A lot of times things come up so that you can't get to the bank right away.
Anyway, cashrose, I think there is a 90 day expiration date, so your check will still be good.

Usually a check will be void after 90 days if you don't cash it. You better run to the bank and cash/deposit your check soon!!

If you are running close to the 90 day deadline, be sure to ask your bank whether they can process it within the deadline.  If the check gets rejected, you will be charged a returned check charge ($25-30) -- which hardly makes it worth the risk.

In addition, if you go in on a Saturday, the bank will generallycalculate the timeframe based on the following Monday (Saturday are not necessarily bank processing days).

This happened to me with a check I had set aside and forgot.  Took it on a Saturday which was just under the 90 day limit, but Monday was day 91 -- so the bank could not guarantee that the check would be accepted by the issurer. They recommended that I just ask the issurer (not FC) to reissue the check.  (Which is what I did and had the new check in hand and deposited in less than 2 weeks.)

switch to either a direct deposit to your bank, or change to having it put into your PayPal account

Normally a check is good for 60 days unless stated otherwise on the check.
