metal detection...

My husband and I are wanting to start metal detecting and turn it into a family affair.  He and I have absolutely no experience with this.  So if anyone has any advice...I'd love to hear it.

Spend the money on a good detector. Old school parking lots and grounds, also old farmsteads have proven to give us some interesting finds. Good luck and happy hunting!

It is a lot of fun,, going out and trying to find something worthwhile, lots of exercise. But to make a bus. of it You are going to have to really work at it. Can always find change at events. But to really be able to find something good, it is work, work at it. We use to do it it while out rock hounding with the gem and mineral club and sometimes found some good things, But what ever you do , do not go on some elses property withoutasking and if you go throuh a closed gate be sure you close it or if it open leave it open.

Make sure that it is legal to search certain areas before going in (city parks, schools, lake areas, etc.).  The laws vary from state to state and city to city.
