why is everyone doing taxes early

cause they think they is going to get an tax return early but not until 7 to 10 business day.

I did my federal a few days ago.  I do mine early so I can get my money faster.  I will wait until the last minute if I owe money but if I am getting a refund I want it asap.

I do mine as soon as I get all my paperwork (typically early Feb, as all paperwork is required to be sent in time for delivery by January 31).  That way it's done and over.  And like the above poster stated, if I'm expecting a refund, the faster I get it, the faster I can put it into an interest bearing account.

I've been working over the past few years to minimize my refunds.  Some advice I've been considering is it's actually better to owe a little bit on your taxes (less than $100) than to get a refund because that means you didn't overpay the government (basically giving your money to the government for zero return on that "investment").  If you prefer the refund, same principle - try to make your refund as small as possible because that means you kept your money through the year working for you.  Just have to have a plan to save that money or invest it wisely.

MOst of us that are getting any type of refund usually file early so that we can get our refund quickly. Like efiling so you can get your refund back within a couple weeks. If I owe I go ahead and get them ready but then don't send them til the next to last day. However, I believe the file date for the governemnt to accept them is Jan 30, 2013. I can't file because I am waiting on a 1098T form.

The IRS isn't accepting any returns until January 30 so you might want to double check that.

I am still waiting for my 1099s, so I won't be sending right away anyway. I usually file around the last month, but I am thinking of filing a little earlier this year.

Our 1099's haven't come in and the govt. will have to wait until the last minute to get anymore out of us. Squeezing everyone dry anyway.. File early when getting any back and last minute when they are takeing it. Oh i know it is petty but to each his own.

I do mine early so I don't forget about it and then I don't have to get stuck waiting for mine to be processed with all the others.  Normally I just do them the minute I get my papers cause then they are done and I can forget about it for another year.

If you owe, it gives you a couple of months to save up the money to pay without filing an extension or being late and paying penalties.  If you get a refund, in today's economy, I am sure we could all use it as soon as possible, especially since bills seem higher in winter.

Get it done before you forget and it's the last minute. Most people want to just get it over with.
