It is about time that someone told the truth about assault weapons. I did not realize the facts were so close to my feelings. I did not know the true definition of assault rifle, but always beleived that this was a way to take away our right ot bear arms. Looks like I was on the right track. It is not the first time that governments have used fear to solicit and then enact laws to control the population. But how do we stop the mass hysteria? I hope that this presentation will wake-up Americans and bring a solidarity to the fight against taking away our right to bear arms. Lets protect ourselves from the idiots and the government.

Yes, I've been trying to get the word out, and share the link to this presentation. I think a lot of Americans are just lulled into thinking "it can never happen here," and they believe the propaganda from the media without even realizing the facts are really the exact opposite of what they are telling us.

The Bill of Rights doesn't even mention legalized murder. But the Second Amendment clearly states the the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. That means that the government can't take away that right. (Not that they don't try, though).

Are you kidding me? Assault weapons in the hands of the wrong people are deadly. I swear people who think the Government is so wrong is also the same fools who vote for them in. Think about your next vote when you vote that person in for your causes and thinks the way you do and not what is good for the people of everybody and not just you! Those kind of guns are made for people who wanna kill in mass and oh yeah guess what that is what the people who had them did. I swear your kind of mainframe is what is wrong with America today. If we did not have people like you we probably would not have mass killings. Hmmmm think about it. Mental my a** it is people like you with some what sane minds who teach their children this kind of stuff and then grow up to be murderers. This why I say video games and movies have nothing to do with it. Imagine growing up in this person's home. What would you think about guns.

Passing laws on gun control is not the answer. Criminals are not going to follow laws. People not in their right mind are NOT going to stop and say, this is an unregistered fire arm, I better register it before I going shoot up a place. Criminals are not going to say, this is a banned weapon, I better not use it when I rob the bank tomorrow.  

The mental health system of America is failing. The mental health system needs an overhaul, not gun control laws. For example, the laws in Arizona are such that it is fairly easy to get someone evaluated. They can be evaluated and have recommendations made. Unless the person is in the legal system, they can not forced to follow through with treatment.

I think maybe you might want to click on that link and read the article thoroughly. Assault weapons are not what you think they are, nor were they used in the crimes you mentioned. The truest thing in that article is, "Outlawing guns that are popular today will only make different guns popular tomorrow." The best way to address the problem, in my humble opinion, is to limit the sale of bullets. If a person could only buy, say, 10 bullets a year, then they wouldn't be able to shoot twenty or thirty people. Also, the bullets should cost them about 100 bucks apiece. Maybe that would stop the madness, but I doubt it. Anyway, it's quite clear the assault weapons ban isn't doing any good.    and  

On second thought, let them buy 12 bullets a year, but only one per month. That might give them time to have second thoughts, or maybe see a psychiatrist.

You may be right about some of the things you say. Still guns, assault rifles in the hands of the wrong people is a bad thing. Mental health should not always be blamed for people killing people when they grew up with this kinda stuff around them always and then have access to them. The system is broken. The young teen in New Mexico who killed his Family. How would this scene be different if he did not have access to guns in his own home. Get them off the street maybe, and also may not have been able to get one without someone trying to make a buck. I still feel Parents need to rethink when they put these kinds of guns in their home around mentally ill or not mentally ill kids. There is a right way and a wrong way. Responsibility is in the hands of the beholder.

Assault weapons & extended magazines should not be owned in my opinion.
I agree with the general right, but unless someone can explain why in the world anyone would need those, it seems rather simple to me.
These are weapons of war and destruction, not of protection.

Did you even read the presentation in the original post? Because all of your questions are answered.

8583 gun murders in 2011.
48 murders by assault weapons.
0.56% of gun murders in 2011 were from Assault rifles.

The whole idea of banning assault weapons is (from an aerial perspective) near-pointless to the main problem which is simply keeping guns out of the hands of unstable people. We just need stricter gun laws. Not outright bans. Either way you do it, to think this gun-violence problem will cease is a pipe dream. Good people obey laws. Bad people don't.
