I try to think of my favorite place....Las Vegas! Doesn't solve the problems, but it certainly puts a smile on my face!

I eat some of my favorite food, and instantly I feel better. At least the mood gets better, but later on  I worry about eating all that bad stuff,LOL.

Listen to Nirvana, The Pretty Reckless, any heavy metal. I usually bang my head around and whip my hair and rock out. If I can't listen to music, I go for a run outside to clear my mind. I also like to watch people falling down or epic fails or go the The People of Wal-Mart website, and then I don't feel so bad anymore because if I think I look like crap on some days, those people remind me that I look good!! Haha!!

I love gourmet cooking so I find a complicated gourmet recipe to prepare, turn on some nice Jazz music and get in the kitchen and create.  This works to cheer me up if the dish turns out great.  If it doesn't then I am even more depressed.

I like to just get out and be around people. Not that I have to talk to them but just to be out moving around and doing things.

I'm glad to hear that after a horrible week in the hospital with devastating news your father is going to be able to get rid of the tumor.  My Mom had a nodule on her pancreas and had 3/4 of it removed.  Yes you can survive with a portion of the pancreas removed...pending on which lobe is withdrawn.  She is on an enzyme tablet for the rest of her life to do what that portion of pancreas used to do (at least when it was healthy)

... Moving on.  I allow myself a good cry.  But in a hospital setting that can be difficult.  Some things I've done in the hospital setting to release emotions are... putz around in the gift shop.  Splurge on something decadent I wouldn't normally do.  walk the campus/the halls...jog there is a safe environment to do so.  Pray in the chapel.  I can't focus on reading so the netflix...funny video's is a great idea.   Cartoons have gotten me through many a moments in ER's and pediatric admissions.

Hope some of those suggestions help.  I think you're on the right track by knowing the diversion is good for you.

A few times in my life when I have been beside myself with depression or worry, I sat down and watched hours of America's Funniest Home Videos.  It didn't solve my problems but I promise it takes me out of my own worries for a short period of time and makes me laugh no matte how bad I feel.
Good music, coffee, and video games lol !

By doing the things that I enjoy.  Either reading, talking to someone or just realizing that things could be a lot worse.
