I have a chronic pain condition, so I don't quite understand what you're saying.  Is it "mind over matter", if so I can tell you from a personal perspective that, that doesn't work.  As far as meds go, they don't always work either and you can become immune to them.  Sometimes you just have to put up with it, even if that means being house bound for a few days.
