Banning guns would be nearly impossible because there are so many in existence. Additionally, criminals can always find a way to get their hands on them and the citizens are left with no way to protect themselves.
It my even lead to a rise in violent crimes involving physical attacks.

That's really worked well in Great Britain where they just get to stand around and be robbed.  Australia has the same problem.  When you ban guns, the bad guys still have them.  Are you aware that Russia is building two plants in Venezuela to produce AK47's?  Do you really think they aren't going to be imported into the United States so all of the criminals will have them and the good guys will have nothing?  That's why the plants are being built in Venezuela for distribution to the United States.  Wake up people, your freedom is going down the drain.

I think this is such a stupid question ...

It is like asking, "Do you think we should throw out the US Constitution?"

There is good reason why we have the "Second Amendment"
"The right to bear arms"

But there are those that would prefer to abolish all rights and liberties!

I don't think guns should be banned, but I do think we need to crack down on the ability to get semi automatic weapons.  There is no use for that kind of weapon, you can't hunt with it , so what is it good for?
I think the time for talking and talking and talking about this subject should be over.  The government needs to crack down big time and not let the NRA govern the situation.  The government is for the people and of the people, not a large, heavily funded lobbying group.  Aren't people tired of waking up every few days or weeks and hearing of another mass shooting?
I know there is also the huge issue of mental health and the lack of funding for it.  The people in "the know", need to come up with a comprehensive plan to identify and treat people with mental health issues.  I have a hard time believing someone just wakes up one day and decides to take out a classroom of children and no one ever noticed that he was having problems or seemed "off", or whatever.      :peace:
Hundreds of thousands of people hunt with semi-automatic firearms! Where did you get the idea that they can't be used for hunting? I personally know several people who use them for hunting, and if was to ever hunt, i would use them as well.
If the government is for the people, then there wouldn't even be mention of "cracking down," on the people's rights. Banning guns would not even begin to stop mass shootings. What about Columbine, which happened during the Clinton assault weapon ban?
Yes the time for talking is over. There is no need to talk about depriving a large segment of the population with the proper tools to defend themselves and their country if need be. If you don't like particular guns, or any guns, just don't buy them!
With all the talk about conservative "fear-mongering", the liberals have taken it to new levels. Instead of just rational distrust based on centuries of world history and actual act, which is falsely called fear-mongering, the liberals work people up to irrational fear of inanimate objects. It is disgusting that they use tragedies to achieve their ends, but still, why do so many people follow along?

Guns should be banned from any household where there is a mentally unstable person. How hard would that be?
We are not back 200 hundred years ago more or less. Times have changed. we need to keep up with these changes. So far we haven't.

Absolutely not.  So much has been made of this obviously very mentally ill person's guns with nothing mentioned about his illness.  "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."  Look at illicit drugs.  They are illegal, but, guess what, they're everywhere.

While  I have been reading this thread I have been listening to the news and heard reports of shootings in 2 cities. One in California and one in Philly. Children should be able to go to school and know it is a safe place. We have to start some where. I do not believe guns should be banned but assault rifle sales should be strictly limited to aw enforcement and military.

Should guns be banned in America?  Only if your a government looking for COMPLETE CONTROL of the PEOPLE.  This is not about guns, it's about CONTROL.

"When the government fears the people there is liberty; when the people fear the government there is tyranny."

     Thomas Jefferson

Absolutely! The move to ban guns is ALL about control.

To the original question: Should Guns be banned in America?

Lest we forget history....Why did our founding fathers make sure the people's rights to arm themselves was placed in the US Constitution in the first place?

How far have American's fallen from freedom and don't even realize it?

If anyone thinks our government is there to help "We The People"...well.... all I can say is...they haven't been paying attention to history at all! Past or present!!

If you take away all the guns do you think people will stop hurting one another?  No, there will only be more stabbings.  I'm fine with reasonable gun control but lets not forget that the real problem lies in the heart of people.

I definitely don't think guns should be banned.
Not only is it our constitutional right to own them, but if we make them illegal, then only the criminals will have them.

I hate that there is a need for them, but there is, so we must adapt and protect ourselves.

Banning guns wont solve ANY of the problems we have.
