There's a few great offers out there right now, but buying a laptop also depends on what you're going to be using it for.
So look past cheap and focus more on getting a laptop that meet your needs. Also look for a Windows 8 (Latest Windows)
above 2GB of memory, Hard-drive space 350GB or more, "Very important," ask about the release date of the processor, you
need to be up to date: AMD E2 and above or Intel i3 and above. (last but not least battery life) energy star.

Hey you mentioned that you need a cheap laptop and help paying for it.  Well the fastest way that will happen if you sign up for one of those online schools that give you a laptop for attending their school.

"Friends" aren't exactly all that you need and I'm not sure how friends have anything to do at all with getting a laptop.  If you are able to get on here daily and work a while and save your pennies every which way you can get them, you will be able to afford a laptop in no time.  If you just need something to get online with try going with a netbook.  They don't have a lot of space for downloading stuff but they are very cheap, lightweight and good to do regular stuff on.  You might could find one between 2-3 hundred versus a laptop ranging 5 hundred into the thousands.

The laptop I am using right now cost me $21.50 on Ebay. I bought one that was for Parts Only, but in the ad I noticed it would boot to the BIOS. I bought a USB stick for $5 and loaded BrowserLinux on it and it works fine for browsing the Internet and can't get spyware or viruses.

Why don't you to quibids.com and bid on one. you might just get one for under $100.

Ol Buddy is really smart in that he knows how to make a lap top work. How about you search ebay for us who need laps (my 600 lap was stolen within 3 months of buying it) and let us know when you see one with a bios thing that can be fixed to internet use. We love your experience!

It just takes patience. Get on ebay and do an advanced search for "laptop not working" in Computers/Tablets, check located in United States and sort by Time Ending Soonest so you can snag one that doesn't have much interest. Add any other search criteria you want and save that search. Then run it every few days and look for a bargain. There is some risk involved, so use common sense to pick one that will fit your needs. It took me 3 days to find mine.

Nice... Sounds like the old hard drive just failed. You could probably boot from a CD also if it has one of those. Also could probably run a full linux distro like ubantu but would still need a flash drive or similar for storage. Flash drives have gotten so inexpensive.
You probably know all of this already but might be useful for others.

I run my laptop with an 8Gb flash drive I got for $5 at Office Depot and installed BrowserLinux on it.

Check out TigerDirect.com.  You can generally get a lot of electronics from them kinds cheaply.  I believe we got my mom's laptop for $300 but I don't remember.  Really depends how cheap you mean.
