do you give gifts or tip service providers (salon, mail carrier, etc.) at christmas time?

I DO BOTH DEPENDING. LIKE FOR MY HAIRDRESSER I GIVE THE SAME TIP AS USUAL AND A BOTTLE OF WINE OR SOMETHING. IF I GO WITH MY FIANCE THEN WE GIVE OUR REGULAR TIP PLUS A BIT MORE AND A GIFT WITH CARD. I GIVE THE MAIL MAN A CARD WITH A TIM HORTONS GIFT CARD. FOR MY MECHANIC EVEN I GIVE HIM A CARD WITH A TIM HORTONS CARD TOO. IT ALL DEPENDS REALLY. IT IS THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS RIGHT

That is more than I do! I should be better about that i guess.

I guess it would just depend on your situation. If you are financially comfortable buying small gifts than that is something to think about, however I think a card with a well thought out, heartfelt, personalized hand written message letting them know that you appreciate them may be more effective. I think someone would appreciate a gesture that makes them smile more than a gift card or physical object.

We do a nice tip for the paperboy every Christmas, but other than that it's the normal tips. Mind you, there are a lot of other personal services I deal with year-round other than my hairdresser, who is a personal friend and gets tipped very well whenever I see her!
