Sometimes we have to for self preservation; other times it's out of basic human respect.

I do not like this word obey in the marriage words. I think pressure from this word tend to have people want to rebel.

Sometimes "obeying" others wishes is just a way to keep the peace.  Other times, it's just a way to make that person feel good.  Sometimes, well, it's just downright hard to do!!!!!!!!!

I wish you would have been more specific in your post as to what you meant.  If you are still in your parents' home, then the reasons should be obvious.  If you meant within a marriage, then, of course, there the reasons are obvious as well.  Work relationships just keep a harmonious workplace.  Others, I guess that's what I wish you would have said if that was what you meant, because we don't always have to.  It is good to be a peacemaker, but not always to the point of being a doormat.

That's a good question. And my answer to that is because that's a good way to keep the peace with others. Wouldn't you think so.

You do have to like it, but to respect it is a must.

You're right, you really don't have to - you just have to decide if you can live with the consequences if you don't.  You can attempt to talk to the person and change their mind, follow whatever wishes they are imposing, or go against them and let the chips fall where they may.

I think it really depends on the situation. Doing what someone ask may may that one thing that may change their life, or save thier life.

I think obey ought to be taken out of the marriage vows. It is only he women that have to say it, and i know a lot men who thought and believed that is the way it should be. My ex thought so. Guess what that is part of why he is my ex. He also thought he could just do anything he wanted while i stayed home with the kids. And believe me he did just what he wanted. So long old man in the end. At leas i had the respect of his family, my family and friends.

I don't feel I have to obey people's wishes at any time.  I wish alot of things but it doesn't mean someone has to do it. To me its just a way to express yourself sometimes.

I think obey is an outdated word.  If we are children, we should obey (respect our parent's wishes).  If we are employees, we must follow the directives of our employers.  In all instances, we should respect our fellow human beings (unless we are trying to kill us).  In other words, I think respect is a more suitable word, in most cases.

For the right price, I will obey anyone.
I was lying in bed the other night, looking up at the stars, and thinking, "Where in the heck is my roof?"
