Sugar Cookies
« on: November 27, 2012, 12:00:08 pm »
This is actually the first time I made sugar cookies from scratch. I used an Elton Brown recipee from foodnetwork online site. I do not understand why they only call for one teaspoon milk because the batter needs more moister or you just have a bunch of powder. I added more milk and it made it less sweet. I saw add more milk and sugar. With the frosting from allrecipees online site I added more vanilla. The frosting was good. How do you all make your sugar cookies?

I have a sugar cookie recipe from The Taste of Home that I cut out nearly 14 years ago.  They are actually called White velvet cutouts.  This recipe makes 7 dozen so be prepared to set some time aside for this one.  It's worth it though.  They melt in your mouth.  When the dough begins to softened I stick it back in the fridge or freezer to keep it cool and workable.  If ya give it a shot let me know how they turn out.

Here's what you'll need
2 c. butter or margarine softened
1 8oz package cream cheese softened
2 c sugar
2 egg yolks
1 t vanilla extract
4 1/2 c all purpose flour

In a mixing bowl, cream butter and cream cheese until light and fluffy, add sugar, egg yolks and vanilla, mix well.  Gradually add flour, cover and chill 2 hours or until firm.  Roll out onto a floured surface to 1/4" thickness.  Cut into 3" shapes; place 1 inch apart on a greased baking sheet (I use stones) Bake @ 350 for 10 - 12 minutes or until set (not browned)  Cool 5 minutes; remove to wire racks t cool.

Butter cream frosting
3 1/2 c confectioners sugar
3T butter or margarine (softened)
1 T shortening (butter flavored shortening tastes better & it's sold in sticks)
1/2 t vanilla extract
3-4 T milk

I haven't baked cookies in a very long time. I love sugar cookie though. They're not my favorite but they're still very delicious.
