Dressing or Stuffing??
« on: November 18, 2012, 10:49:13 pm »
I have talked with many people these past couple weeks who are buying & getting ready for Thanksgiving.

Some of them buy prepackaged box mixes for stuffing/dressing.

There are some who stuff their bird of choice, while others prepare a separate side-dish of dressing.
I like to make homemade dressing from scratch & bake it separately. (Im not a "stuffer"...lol)

How do you or your family/friends prepare it, if at all?

It's really the same thing. It's called dressing if it's on the side of the bird/meat and stuffing if it's well stuffed inside of it. I've made stuffing before but we usually just do dressing.

My dad's homemade recipe for dressing. I do not stuff my turkey, cause I do not like my turkey that way. Yuck!

My mom made (heated) ready made stuffing one year when I was young and it was horrible.  I wanted to buy a turkey this year but my oldest daughter requested turkey dressing, a tradition in our family for Thanksgiving.

Typically ours is dressing (on the side).  I know stuffing I've had in the past has been more moist due to absorbing the bird's juices.  I like either personally - it's all good.

I've never made it homemade, always via a box.  I would like to try to make it homemade sometime.  Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult.

My wife makes the best homemade dressing. Its moist yet crispy on top. Mmmmm....
I don't care for "stuffing" because it's typically cooked inside the bird, and its soggy. :P

I make it from scratch using my grandmother's recipe and stuff as much as I can in the bird.  The rest just gets baked in the oven.

My mom has always made dressing in a seperate baking dish and it is delicious with a little gravy on top. I didn't even know anything about stuffing in the turkey until I was an adult.

Homemade all the way!Box stuffing can not compare to homemade cornbread dressing made right. No stuffing the bird gross.

Thankfully, I don't do any cooking for Thanksgiving. My mom does it all (still). She makes some really good stuffing. From scratch.

I always do both: what doesn't fit in the bird goes in a dish.  I consider the turkey merely the vessel to hold the stuffing  ;D

I like dressing.  I do not care for stuffing and fear that stuffing does not get cooked well enough inside the turkey.
