I was not even a fleeting thought at that point in time.  Wouldn't be for several years.

Although I do recall where I was when Pres. Reagan was shot, when the space shuttle Challenger blew up on launch, and when the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated on re-entry.  And not to mention where I was on 9/11/2001...

i was not born yet but i have heard stories from my mom about how she cried and it was like the whole world cried too-she said it was like the world stood still --and mourned as one

John John was the only baby to live in the white house in the 20th Century and also the last baby to live in the white house.

I was in Mrs. Underwood's fourth grade classroom.  it was a gorgeous, sunny November afternoon.  Friday, as you know.  I remember another teacher standing with a transistor radio in her hands and two other teachers (including mine) standing next to her and leaning in to hear the news.  At that time the rest of us were taking advantage of the lack of attention being paid to us and just goofing and clowning around.  Eventually we all got back to our desks and the big television on a high rack at the front of the classroom was turned on so we could watch until school let out at 3:30.  We were out of school the following Monday for the funeral (I remember the drum cadence of the funeral procession to this day), then we went back Tuesday and Wednesday--and then got out that week for Thanksgiving.

It was the quietest Thanksgiving I've ever known.

@ Dauna--thanks for sharing that --i can't imagine what that must have been like as a child growing up to see the teachers and parents so sad --the world was a different place --people respected the president then and JFK was loved by so many --i can get a sense of what the teachers felt and how thanksgiving was so sad from your post--again thanks

I was out playing with some friends. When I got home, I was devastated to learn what happended to JFK. It was a sad day for me.

Noooooooo, I was born in 1987 so I don't remember anything about it but my mom was in elementary school and it was announced in her school so she remembers.

Absolutely, I was freshly released from active duty in the US Army and at that moment I was in school. It was announced over the PA System and many students thought it was a prank.
