does anyone like to make everything from scratch? I know I enjoy food that way, but am too lazy to make it.

Hotdishes or casseroles are easy meals to fix from scratch.

I also make a great chicken noodle soup from scratch.

I just got into cooking this year.  I like experimenting with different ingredients.  I have restaurant style dishes on my to get list b/c presentation makes a difference too.

I cook most of my meals from scratch.  I will pick up a pre-made meal once in a while, if I have a coupon, or if I know I'm going to be on the run a lot.  I've learned how to make a lot of things quickly.

For vegetables - I got a steamer basket that I put in a pot, fill the water just below the basket, dump in the veggies, and cook with the lid on for about 6-10 minutes on medium.  I also get the frozen veggies - without sauces (which is getting harder to find these days)

I've gotten more into eating rice - super quick - one cup rice to 2 cups water.  Bring to boiling, then cover and reduce heat, wait about 10 minutes - done.

I have a George Foreman grill for steaks/burgers which are cooked in about 6 minutes or so.  For chicken, if I only want one, I put a chicken thigh or breast on some tinfoil on a cookie sheet.  Sprinkle various combinations of spices I'm in the mood for on it.  Then bake 40 minutes at 350 F (if you up the temp to 400 F, could be done in about 20 min...but I find it tends to be drier).

I also got a crockpot and a recipe book for it - those are super easy too - just put in the ingredients and come back a few hours later and dinner is served.

I was raised on a farm and that is the only way I know how to cook. I have been cooking since I was 10 years old and I have found a lot of short cuts and I just don't like any of the box dinners.

I started learning at very early age. My grandma was a great teacher and by the time i was 10 i was doing most of the cooking. Very sldom use a box mix, they are for a time that someone shows up at the last minute and hubby and i were just going eat leftovers and i have  to extend the meal. Grandma even taught me how to can. And living on a farm learned to butcher also. Had our own chickens and eggs. Life was so simple then just a lot of hard work.

My Father taught me how to cook when I was 7 yrs old. He would always have me in the kitchen watching what he was doing and him talking to me about the seasoning's and right amount of flour for your gravy. I had a neighbor who lived in the house in front of ours and she taught me how to bake at a young age. I was making homemade pancakes, pies and cakes for me and my brothers. At this time dad was on the road a lot and it was my turn to do the cooking at age 9 I think. My oldest brother used to do some cooking but we didn't like it me and my other brother. We did eat it though because he took out time to cook for us. Once I started I enjoyed it. I make the most tasty pineapple upside down cake. Yummy.. I just wish my son would eat more than hot dogs and things because I m running out of ideas of making them differently. I even figured out a way for him to eat cheese cause he really doesn't like it. At least he does like red beans and also black eye peas.  :heart: :heart: :heart:

Sounds like you are about to open up a nice restaurant or at least cater a private party  :notworthy:.

I cook mainly from scratch, because there is so much fat, salt and sugar in prepared foods. We started peeling stuff and mixing in the kitchen when we were kids. Then I took Home Economics in high school when the auto shop class was full.  Don't bake as much as I did when I was seventeen. I go to Burger King and other place but I control my eating there. Going to the buffet for lunch one or twice a year is still good they have plenty of vegetables.
