Let's talk movies

Can’t wait for next April when Iron Man 3 comes out.  Soooo love Robert Downey Jr in the roll.  It’s why I got Avengers—just for him.

Just bought The Taking of Pelham 123.  It is awesome.  I’ve watched it like a zillion times and I can’t say this enough.  I just LOVE John Travolta as a villain.  He’s just got that raw energy that makes a villain.  I personally think he is five times better as the villain than he ever was as a good guy.

.  I saw Taken 2 and I have to say it is very disappointing.  To me it came across as a rip off of the first (and I enjoy the first which is why I went to see the second).  I hate when sequels do that.  It’s like Hollywood says okay this movie worked so let’s make it again.  So they slightly change the plot and a few things but basically it’s the same movie.  That’s the problem I have with The Fugitive vs. U.S. Marshalls.  I enjoyed The Fugitive but when I saw U.S. Marshalls it was just more of the same thing.  The latest connection to get it right (excluding those that cheat like twilight because they’re based on books) was the Bourne Trilogy.  Each one was different yet they connected to each other in a way that made sense.  I miss that.  I miss when people weren’t trying to create the ‘magic’ of the first one.  They just wanted to tell a story.  Like Die Hard or Rambo.  Each one was its own movie.  They were each as great as the one that came before.

I got the twilight zone collection.  (The old original 60’s serious).  I have to say that while not all of them are good and some of them it’s the twist that ruins the episode, most of them are as spellbinding as they were the first time they aired.  It’s what 40 years later and they are still great.  They don’t make tv shows like that anymore.  I mean how may shows on right now will still be watched 40 years from now?  Sadly I can’t think of a single one.  Even the ones I currently watch (an enjoy) would hardly stand the test of time like the Twilight Zone.  (The original. the reboot didn’t even come close.)

Not that it's a movie, but--lately I've discovered the Wonderful World of Hulu, which contains all the Night Gallery episodes and quite a bit of Alfred Hitchcock (filed under Oldies but Goodies).  I have a very soft spot for Rod Serling, always thought he was a fine writer/storyteller.

The avengers definitely has to be my top pick for 2012 so far. Im really big on super heroes and with Avengers its like the best of all worlds. The previews for Iron man 3 look pretty intense though, i'll definitely be catching that the night it premieres  ;D

The last movie I saw was The Lorax and we had to leave early because my little one wouldn't sit down haha - she did good for the first 30 minutes then got curious.  It was a free movie that's the only reason I took her, I didn't really lose out on anything when we left - I want to know what happens in the end though lol

Having watched Ponyo last year, and The Secret World of Arrietty this year, I have been mesmerized by them. I'm so looking forward to watching the whole Studio Ghibli collection, because I just find them truly amazing and beautifully done. Granted, I'm a grown up, but I still enjoyed these kind of movies; those and the Pixar movies also, but for completely and totally different reasons.

I agree I love John Travolta as a villain in the movie Face Off he was good at playing the bad guy I really liked it.

I just finished watching that old family movie Zathura.  It’s basically a sci-fi version of Robin William’s Jumanji.  While there are good points to Zathura and I like the weird twist to the movie which is never really explained but I don’t really care, I like Jumanji better.  I realize movies are now about the growth of the character but I just don’t care for the two brothers (who are playing Zanthura) fighting all the time until near the end.  In Jumanji the brother and sister loved each other and since with was really about Robin Williams they didn’t need any growth character study.  They loved each other and were just trying to deal with the death of their parents which I love the fact that Robin Williams’ character makes sure when he goes back to being an adult (i.e. Robin Williams) he hires their parents so that they don’t die.

I finally watched the Lake House with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.  While I think it is a very beautiful love story and both actors do a wonderful job repairing ten years after Speed, I do agree with the critics over the mailbox, which they ever explain in the moive its ‘magical powers’.  Sandra Bullock is supposedly in current time while Keanu Reeves is like ten years behind her in his time and the way they communicate is through the mailbox they both share.    Her story actually begins when he dies but somehow she is able (though the mailbox) to rejoin their storyline so at the end of the movie they wind up in the same time together.  Like I said, it’s a very beautiful love story (if you are into that sort of thing) it just isn’t explained how the mailbox and do that time warp thing.  If you look at the mailbox as a metaphor to fate and believe that two people who were meant to be together will be regardless of the circumstances surrounding them, then you will be okay with the move.
