I collect coins and dollar bills from around the world.   My kids love to look at my coins collection, because my coins I received some of my coins from my grandmother and great Aunt before they died.

I did this with my two boys when they were young. They are now in their 30's.  I found they had fun while doing the collecting when they were young but did not enjoy it when they got older. They sold as much of it as they could.  I wish I had taught them how to invest that money in savings accounts or stocks rather than spend it on old coin collecting. It didn't teach them anything but how to collect an item.  My opinion is teach children how to save money rather than spend.

I used to love collecting stamps! but then I got over that..

I've also been collecting foreign currency for as long as I can remember ;D whenever I go out of the country I always make sure to save some money for my collection.

I used to have a collection of coins from all over the world when I served in the military. Unfortunately, time got tough, and the coins had to be sold to survive.

I started buying junk silver coins on ebay last year.
I was selling them too.
It was hard to maintain inventory when paypal holds your money for three weeks. Now I don't have any more $ to invest. But, I have a few pounds of the stuff (approx $1.25 = 1 oz.).
Now, I am waiting until the spot price rises some more to cash out....unless there is the collapse of the world economy. ;)..then i got a little barter money.

To greenworld12 's point: My grandma gave me some coins when i was a wee lad. I sold them to a friend while in high school (80's) for about $20. Its what they were worth. melt value on that now, is quite a bit more. There were some nice coins in that collection. DAMN! :BangHead:

I had to look these up because I couldn't believe there were actually denominations for these large amounts made. Thanks for teaching me something.
