Tell me about it! We are a five income family: My wife has been with the same cosporation for thirty three years and makes great money and also works part time making okay money but good benefits. I am making twice what I did a year ago on my day job, the same amount at my night job and decent money in side pursuits.  We just refinanced our mortgage to save even more money and we are still struggling.  Our kids are quite expensive with their sports and school activities but they don't consume very red cent that we make.

It seems like the more you make the more you have to spend everything is so expensive it is even depressing to go to grocery store anymore

Well, with my husband going on complete disability because of a work accident and me getting laid off after  25 years (we were both making great money and had benefits), we have learned how little we really have to spend.   I do miss going out to dinner several times a week, now I only go out to dinner when I have a mystery shop at a restaurant.  That can fool you sometimes.  I had a shop for a fine dining Italian food, I planned to use for my husband's birthday,  turns out it was in a food court at the mall.  I don't think of the food court as find dining, the food was good and we had a good laugh and good time anyway.

I too sometimes feel overwhelmed just trying to keep up.  Our wages over the past few years have actually decreased rather than increased though the cost of living continues to mount.

Its crazy because if you don't properly budget your money then by the end of the week your clueless as to where all the money you worked so hard for went. Budgeting and cutting back on unnecessary purchases will save you alot of money at the end of the day. Its all about budgeting and staying disciplined. Good luck.

Bills and other essentials (i.e. gas, groceries) seem to take a huge dent in my paycheck. Unfortunately my poor annual increases are not compensating for the rise in inflation. I'm not sure how well I would fare if my family structure wasn't dual income. I sometimes envy certain past decades where food and housing was so much cheaper in comparison to people's earnings.

Agreed. Bills and other bare essentials.

I recently landed another part time job, but had to lay out $50.00 to get the right color clothes. This was before I started working. My boss was surprised, when she tried to call my cell phone (my only telephone) and she couldn't get through. I told her well it was either buy the clothes or pay the cell phone bill. She thought since these were the "in thing" according to the latest fall fashion reports that everyone would have brought at least one set of clothes in these colors. (Apparently she changes the dress code yearly thinking she is doing everyone a favor.)  Later she had this discussion in a staff meeting, I found it interesting that I wasn't the only one that made trade-offs to start working for her. She was just shocked. According to my co-workers, her attitude as changed considerably since the meeting.

When things are tight, you have to make sacrifices and trade-offs. Currently, I have no room for medical issues or clothes in my budget. Both are brought on "as need" basis, then only with a trade-off. One positive things about this, is that I have learned to budget very well. I have learned to do without.  I do things to save on washing and the wear and tear of clothes. Let's just say I am glad I live alone.  :bootyshake:  :D

I wish you all the best.

Phx0808.

P.S. Before any one starts harping on the fact I have internet, I want to speak about that. I have it because I tutor via Skype (a free program) and use free resources from the internet to prepare lessons. I am not going to get rich doing this, but it helps with the overall income.

I was lying in bed the other night, looking up at the stars, and thinking, "Where in the heck is my roof?"
