I love my pc.....my husband is an ITT tech and we really never had any serious problems not to want one. After you have things for a while,it always needs a tune up or up grade. So I think knowing a little more than basic computer skills can actually play a part in the up keeping of your pc.

I was nervous about going to macs but it was so worth it and if you go to an apple store they have a 1 on 1 where they meet with you for 1 hour of uninterrupted time with a specialist where you can get to know your apple product they also have free workshops where they have open presentation for a class to learn about the products just a heads up

Thank you... i will look for a location. i'm in rural NY - i'll probably have to look somewhere closer to Albany for an Apple store.

You can check apple.com too it shows locations  ;D

I honestly prefer a PC, but I'm getting use to a Mac. Still, it's a PC for me.

I haven't used a mac since the Apple II, so i may be out of the loop. I really like PCs, mainly for the variety of hardware. You can really spec out the machine for the the sort of tasks you are going to do with it, either bare minimum or optimized for certain applications. The software selection is huge, which is why some people end up with hardware software compatibility issues. As far as viruses and spyware goes, I have always been able to keep my systems clean. I am a blood and guts computer guy, I like to tweak my system for the best performance, even if I don't have the newest hardware. I don't know about macs, but the last time I used one there was very little tweaking you could do to it.

Honestly I think that it really depends on what you are going to be doing with it. If your gonna be doing video and audio mixing then yeah mac is the way to go. If your just gonna use it to download music, watch videos, surf the net, or view pics of the family then PC is the way. So it really depends on you. I like mac because there isnt any "known" viruses for it and it is much faster. Downside is that there really isnt many programs up and running for mac right now. LOL and of course the blue screen of death doesn't happen with mac.

PC. Mac are somewhat confusing to me. I guess I need to work with them more and get the feel of it.

Mac has a more user-friendly interface, less bugs, and less viruses have been scripted for it.

And the more people use them, the worse it will get.  Macs have WAY more security threats than Windows...just that nobody cares to take advantage of them because, as a virus coder, it makes no sense to hit a million people when you could hit 10 million.

The last time a person who was known for coding viruses for PCs was timed in how long it took to get a virus on a Mac, it took him 10 minutes.

there isnt any "known" viruses

Yes there is.

What do you base this upon?

There isn't on a PC either if you're not completely ignorant of what you're doing.

I love my PC. However when I do film projects for school (well, did them), I loved using their Mac's for that. But overall, I would prefer to use my PC for everything.

Again, they're not deemed more secure because of the OS.  They're only "more secure" because no virus programming is going to waste hours of time making a virus to target 5 million people, when that same programmer could spend the same hours making the same virus for PCs that will hit 100 million people.

And again, the more Macs become mainstream, the more viruses they will get.  It will be a huge, VERY fast smack in the face, because the Mac OS has WAY more openings for viruses and security threats than Windows has ever had.

I am actually really disappointed that some surveys and sites do not support MAC and require Internet Explorer, because I have officially converted to MAC and really do not want to go back.  I love the fact that my computer rarely slows down, needs a virus scan performed or randomly shuts down programs.  There are a few bugs here and there, and I am not always clear of the crl + alt + del (however it is not daily like with my old PC), but I get to ignore the mass emails about some massive PC virus or worm.

I have never had problems with my PC or laptop. I prefer the PC to the MAC because it is compatible with others and MAC is only compatible with MAC.
