Euthanasia: moral or immoral?

I used to think that euthanasia was wrong, but since i've been writing argument in support of the practice, I'm not quite sure what I think anymore. So what do you guys think, is morally permissible or always wrong?

As a basic idea, euthanasia is not right, but in specific cases, I feel it is accceptable. The idea of taking someone else's life is wrong, but when said person, or animal is in a state where they are better off dead, or are in such pain that they want to die, it is understandable. If it's just someone wanting to die though, it might as well be assisted suicide.

If a person's life and body is not theirs to do with as they desire, who's life and body is it to make such a decision?

If they're incapable, it only makes sense that you take the consent of the person who is closest to the individual and has the next best ability to know what's best for them (of course, this is where the legal issues arise).

I'm always a little concerned about people who oppose euthanasia by voluntary consent, as they're basically saying they have no rights to their own life and body, and thus somebody else should be able to do whatever they want to them.

I'm also slightly concerned when people tell me it's immoral to allow a person who can't breathe normally, chew, see, talk, etc. to consent to their own death, but somehow it's moral to sit there and watch them suffer endlessly.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of this matter, as with any other. If someone wants to die, they are gonna do it or at least attempt it. It the case of cancer and other terminal illness, I think that is a right. If we can take the life of someone who just wants to die, then why is it so wrong to want to help someone out when they are suffering? I'm all for it. I personally don't want to die, so it's not an option for me, but I'd rather someone die in a hospital and not have a family member come home to find them dead. I've not personally had that happen to me, but I would think it would be more painful to just find them in that state.

i think it really just comes down to the matter of a particular situation. it isn't always right. but sometimes it's just better, i think.

  euthanasia because we don't fit in or belong, because someone isn't born healthy and normal? then i believe thats wrong. euthanasia if you are a sexual deviate who hurts children/rapes women and can never get better...maybe. i just don't want to be the one responsible for deciding who and why.
  as with all of those tough moral issues, its just tough to ponder.
i like to say that i oppose/approve because that's my view and my choice yet, i do not condemn those who are on the other side of that issue.
  it's kind of like roe v wade: you can oppose abortion and can say its wrong but, the right thing to do is to allow others to make the choice for themselves.
  also, sometimes you may feel strong about your stance until it becomes personal to you. like death penalty/euthanasia/assisted suicide. i don't like the idea of the death penalty but if someone hurt my family...i'd be all for it.  know what i mean? i guess that's why they are called MORAL issues, it's a debate between your mind and whats in your heart.

I am not opposed to Euthanasia. I am opposed to others making the decision for someone else.

My word is this.. Plain and simple..



Personal choice.

Now sadly if the person lacks the ability to make said choice.  it should become the decision of the family/significant other.
