cell phones for or against
« on: October 13, 2012, 11:16:01 am »
i think they need to go back to just the regular cell phones like they made when they first came out and when they was just used for emergencies they have gone from plain to high teck but look at all the people who have died or have been injured because of all the new texting and checking the web or emails while driving enough is enough

I don't think that taking cellular phones away from people makes sense. Yes a percentage of people use them while driving and a percentage of those have accidents and a percentage of those meet with tragedy.  But larger percentages of people over eat, binge drink, take drugs, over do prescription medicine, don't get enough sleep, smoke all of which end in a greater percentage of deaths.  Should we just stop people from doing anything?  It can all lead to dangerous obsessions.  Suggesting that we take choice away, for their own good,  from people fringes on Orwell foundation.

I agree that there has been alot of people getting hurt because they text and drive but that was their own decison, We cant make choices for them. People just need to learn how to be responsible.

i am not against cell phones at all. i think it is good that cell phones are very high tech now, it shows that we are advancing in technology. but people do need to stop texting and driving, i agree on that.

I would not know what I would do w/out my cell phone even after a bad ice we had several years ago I could use my cell when my lights were out, no TV, no computer, and no home phone - however I would never use a cell while driving.   :angel12:

i dont mind cell phones, but i think its rude when people are talking on the phone when im eating dinner in a restarant and they are talking so loud you know everything thats going on in the conversation...very rude.. and i think people need to keep their hands on the wheel and not on theircell phones when they are driving

[sarcasm]While we are at it, lets ban cars because driver's who are idiots might get hurt.[/sarcasm]

Suggesting that we should hamper the advancement of technology because people cannot be responsible is a silly idea. People are always going to be idiots, it doesn't matter what level technology will become. There is no point in worrying about it, we should instead worry about people directly killing other people.

I am for cell phones. I think people should be considerate and use them at appropriate times (which does not include driving and during a conversation with others).
Opinion: 1) a view, judgment, or appraisal formed in the mind about a particular matter 2) belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge
This is the internet, learn to let people have opinions. And don't be so sensitive.  8)

Just because some people are not smart enough to down the cellphone while driving doesn't mean they're bad or innately unsafe. When you're not driving, a smartphone is a get way to keep up with your work, stay in touch with friends and family who aren't nearby, stay informed and yes.. occasionally play some games!

Mind you, I've almost been in several collisions with distracted drivers simply TALKING on the plain, older cellphones that you think are safe!

I admit that I use a basic cell phone. Mostly because I don't have enough money to spend on all the extras or the smartphones themselves. I believe it is everyone's choice if they want one or not but laws should be stricter for using cell phones while driving.

i have a basic cell phone that i share with my husband just make calls on it.I think kids are used to all the extra stuff on it .Smartphones are amazing that is for sure but expensive also i believe. Might be good to have internet on your phone with good reception and not cost a ton. My son has a blackberry and says the net doesn't come in very clearly.
