Dieting Support
« on: October 13, 2012, 09:30:32 am »
I wanted to make a group for respectable people to discuss triumph and trouble with their dieting. So many times its easy to get tempted especially if you are a previous food addict like me. We are all human and could use the help and polite advice from others. No calling each other names here or making violent remarks.

I lost 100 pounds in a year after my daughter Ruby was born. Now that I have had twins (lost one through miscarriage) I have gained 40 pounds back. I droped couple pounds in the past three days, but when stress hits I get tempted to eat.

I want this thread to be for those willing to be diet buddies and go through dieting together.

Dieting can be hard, especially when you really LOVE food.  I've been a member of Weight Watchers for 1 1/2 years and have lost 35 pounds and have kept it off.  It sometimes creeps up a pound or two, but I'm able to bring it back down.  Glad to help you anytime!!

I am losing one pound a day by changing my diet to foods with lower calories and keeping track of how many calories I consume each day. My BMI tells me how many calories I need to consume each day to maintain my present weight, so I just decrease that number and make that my goal each day.  This way I can eat whatever I want within that calorie count and loose weight without exercising unless I just want to.  Of course the healthier and more nutritious the foods I choose, the more I can eat.  This is working for me.

Dieting is sooo hard because food is so great and we use it when we are happy, sad, get togethers, holidays, and on & on...I guess the best thing to do is keep in mind... eat to live not live to eat  :dontknow:and you always feel better if you don't give in to temptation...hang in there you can do it!

I found a great way to get myself in the habit of aerobic exercise this summer.  For anyone with a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, etc - if it's in a room with a TV, break out your DVD television show collection...or if you have an Apple TV or Roku (or the like), queue up TV shows you like.

What I do is find a consistent time of day (for me it's right after work), and pop in the next episode and watch it while I exercise.  What I do is stay on the machine for the first segment, then rest during the next, back on, then off, etc.  I alternate like that to the end of the episode.  By then end, I've gotten a good 25-30 minutes of cardio, then I stretch out for a few minutes.

I found the TV show gives me a good pace, and keeps my mind off the monotony of the exercise (because I like the show).  I've got enough DVDs to last me a little over a year (if I don't buy any more...), then the Apple TV will provide an endless supply.

Get yourself to do this consistently for a month or two...then you'll start to feel weird when you skip.

If things come up here and there where you cannot (appointments, etc) - don't feel guilty about skipping, just pick it up again the next day.  If you don't "feel" like exercising a day, and there's no reason not to - that's where you just need to kick yourself in the behind and do it anyway.  On those days, just don't workout as intensely, but still do the routine because a lower intensity cardio is still better than no cardio.  Plus on those days, I typically end up feeling better, with more energy after the workout than before.

Hope this idea inspires some people.
