Seasonal fresh fruits and veggies or frozen ones. Stores like Walmart have a good selection and they are usually cheaper than in other stores.

One time I bought just boneless chicken and salmon.  I have a Cuisinart Indoor small grilling machine, something like the George Forman Grill.  I would freeze the
chicken filets and then take one out at a time and cook it on the grilling machine.  The grilling machine removed all the fat.  I would eat that with either salad or some vegetables or a combination of both.  I would eat this or salmon every day.  Also, I would grill steaks as well.  I would have no desert, no fruit drinks, just plain water.

What I found was that after about a month I had lost 20 lbs.  The problem is sticking to this plan for a long term.  But it did work for me.

keep bags of celery slices, carrot slices in a baggie in the fridge, also if you like radishes, always good, make individual salads up for yourself in containers that will keep for a couple of days.

Things like rice and dry beans are a good value and can be used to make a variety of meals. Fresh vegetables and potatos tend to be fairly inexpensive for the amount you get as well. Buying the big containers of plain oatmeal is always a good healthy option and you can change it up by flavoring it with spices, fruit, peanut butter, etc.

If you can eat beans in your salads or even make some interesting side dishes with them they are very affordable and offer lots of fiber. Bananas are also very cheap for a fruit suggestion. Buy on sale too, shop around
