Probably not. It's always good to be prepared for emergencies. If natural disasters occur where you live, such as earthquakes or floods, you should be prepared. A couple of winters ago, we had a bad ice storm that knocked out the power in some parts of my town for about two weeks. It's better to have something and not need it than need it and not have it.

We have had our roads closed all around us up too 4 days. Nothing comming in. Andwe have 1 local grocery store and 3 convient stores. It didn't take long for all of them to run out. Every motel was full and there were people staying at the nat. Guard armory and all churches. We could get around in town some but it was slow going. Glad we had 4 wheel drive. Food was being cooked and delivered from all over the town. When going gets tough here the tough get going. A lot of us have dryed food stored along with canned goods that we put up ourselves so able to help out. And glad to help. So yes you should always have a least a couple of weeks stored up. And a way to cook it. Also water stored lots of it.

I've never been one to "store up" for an emergency, but I admit I probably should since I live in an area prone to ice storms and major blizzards.  I also live in a city where I know that power would be restored fairly quickly and food is not scarce should I run out (at any given time, I have enough in the cabinets for 4-5 days, and if the power goes out in the winter, I can just put the food outside).  It is good to be prepared, just don't get obsessive about it.

I try to stock up whenever I find a good sale on canned goods. These are excellent in case of an emergency. I just have to make sure I use the oldest first so none of it goes bad.

Some people have emergency radios and other supplies depending on where they live.  Places that get a lot of tornadoes, hurricanes, and bad weather.  So, they can stay up to date when it's safe to come outside from their basement or shelter after a storm.

It's always a good idea to have an emergency kit on hand.   First aid, bottled water, candles and an actual radio.   Every area of the country has it's own natural disaster zone.   If you have children and pets, you want to be prepared to evacuate if you have to.   Where I live, there is a six month hurricane season, so I start stocking up a few months before it starts.  Then when it's over I have 'fast food' for those nights that I'm busy with holiday stuff and need to make something quick.

It's always good to be prepared.  I've been trying to do this for awhile.  I haven't saved that alot, but I try to put a little extra away every month.
