Gardening, what are you growing this year?
« on: April 14, 2009, 06:28:28 pm »
Food wise, I'm doing red potatoes, yellow onions, carrots and garlic.   Also basil, mint, horse radish, lavender and hops.
I'm trying yet again for pumpkins and Indian corn.  Always have trouble with those.

I've got my hazelnut trees in, the wisteria is growing, zinnia's, cosmos, carnations, painted daisy.

The daffodils are fading and the tulips are coming in and finally, this year the lilacs will bloom.

I do flowers.  And I do:

Wax beans, Italian beans, string beans, peas, 6 kinds of tomatoes, eggplant, hot peppers, bell peppers, watermelon, pumpkin, cucumbers, yellow squash, pineapples, kiwis, artichokes, fingerling potatoes, onions, celery, asparagus, herbs, and some other stuff.  I grow an entirely different list of stuff in the fall/winter.

I'm jealous that you live somewhere more north and can get your daffodils to bloom.  Mine will only bloom if I dig them up and put them in the fridge over the winter.  And wisteria is a WEED here, but it's so pretty.

For your hydrangeas, make sure you keep their soil pretty acidic.  There are specific "acid-loving"  fertilizers, but old coffee grounds work just as well.

I just recently got interested in growing flowers etc. I have planted some plants and flowers that i bought. They are turning out to be very beautiful. My boss just gave me this wonderful plant clipping from her yard and its huge. I hope it does good. Not sure what its called but Im learning and hope to know alot more by next year to get started earlier in the year.
