We have a rule in our house: no house guest stays longer than two weeks regardless of their misfortune.  We have our own lives to live that are already to complicated, busy and crazy.  Why should we add another complication to our life.  It sounds even worse in your situation because this person doesn't even contribute to your bottom line.  From what I understand he is related to your husband.  Your husband needs to stand up, face his brother and ask him to leave...or contribute at the very least.  This will wear thin on your relationship.

  OM gosh what a position to be in.  I am so sorry trying to help someone has you in a jam.  Other than just getting quickly to the point next time and giving him a timeframe to find his own place I don't know what you would do - hindsight is 50/50 but it seems like its impossible to help anyone - never works out.  You know, my brother, sister and I always knew we could get help from my mom and did so alot.  Now she is deceased and guess what - everyone is having to stand on their own 2 feet for a change.  He is going to have to grow up because if anything happens to your housing he will have to find somewhere to live.  Anyone else in the family you could get to help you with him? You could get him the paperwork for section 8 so he can fill it out and get his own section 8 place.  I live in public housing and am just now after 8 years of waiting getting an interview for section 8. It would be terrible for you to lose your housing after you helped that guy get his SSI. Is there anyway that guy can understand that you are not allowed to have people living with you that are not on your lease.
