how to raise money for low budget horror movie

I've been kicking around the idea for over ten years. Wish I was saving money for it that whole time, but that's another story. So I have many ideas, and some writing, still need to get a good solid script, but while I'm working on that I thought I could start raising some money, so when I am done, I will have something to start from. I know you can make crappy home style movies for next to nothing, but I want something a little better quality. Like some high end B movies. I'm going to invest in a mac one of these days, just can't afford it at the moment. Any ideas to raise some cash?

If you have a good premise set up there are many online art fundraising websites like kickstarter you could try? from what i understand you promote on there probably open an account and set a goal and get people to donate, other idea maybe you can drop off some old books at a used book store for change, collect cans   (i made 30 bucks this month) these can all be slow though.

Maybe collaborate with others in the same field and come up with ideas or speak with people that can help you and come up with a proposal that benefits both of you (such as donating them some of the profit for lending you high quality equipment).  If all else fails, start making sacrifices to start saving TODAY so that 10 years from now you will have progressed toward your goal.  You ever hear of that saying "This time next year you'll wish you started today"? find a community college or un iversity that has a drama or film department, and maybe you can  use students as interns to help with the large amount of work involved in the movie and they could possibly earn credits towards their graduation requirements.  as far as the money goes there are endless possibilites.  yard sales, concerts, any kind of event that could strictly be used to fund the project.  stop thinking about it, and get started.   GOOD LUCK TO YOU

In addition to the above, maybe look to submit applications to opportunities like Project Greenlight which help new film directors get into the business.  See if there are any grants for projects like this you can apply to.

Also, maybe consider asking local businesses to sponsor you if you add product placing in your film.  You might not get a lot, but some may be game to have their store/brand in low budget movie.  However, if you go this route, you may need to get a lawyer to assist with the paperwork to make sure you are covered.

If you decide to try the sponsorship route, I'd suggest watching the documentary "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold" - it's a documentary about that film group going through the process of getting corporate sponsors to pay for the documentary itself.  A bit humorous, but also very informative of the whole corporate sponsor process.  The movie may give you some additional ideas to try.

You could try having a garage sale and a bake sale. You could ask for donations for your yard sale.

I second the idea of doing a kickstarter.  You should start socializing on the internet, get a bit of buzz going and get people interested in it so they'll donate.

have a garage sale/bake sale and see what u can make from that. it may not be alot but it will get u closer to the money u need to make the movie.

You could try Kickstarter! Promise a free copy to everyone who pitches in money, and maybe props or something bigger for bigger contributions.
