Designer BABIES???

  Did any of you see the story of the designer baby.  You can go into the doctor's office and tell him exactly how you want your baby to look.  What ever it may be freckles, blue or green eyes, white hair, what ever your desire they will do it.  I first saw the story on the news but if you haven't seen it you can find it on youtube, just type in designer babies.  What is the world coming too.

I read it a few months back on this article. I do think the idea of screeing for debilitating diseases is a good thing. However, the idea of screeing for eye color and other silly things is not my cup of tea.

People seem to forget how often this kinda stuff back fires.
They used to treat kids who couldn't grow correctly with gene therapy.   They figured out how to turn on the growth gene and now those kids can grow at a "normal" rate.
Then 10-12 years later, those treate kids starting coming down with cancers.   Because, as it turns out, when you mess with one set of genes, you unknowingly mess with others.

Wow! I can't believe this! I'm curious to see the side effect. Also, I'm curious to see what kind of money people pay for this! Sad that people are so wrapped up in "looks"

I saw a show about designer babies last month.  Why are so many trying to play God?  Don't they know if it isn't in God's plan there are going to be consequences.  Be it mental or physical.

What's next-babies being designed as a garden roll and all you would have to do is put it on a shelf and water daily for 6 weeks!!

I would definitely agree that it is quite disturbing to want to "design" a baby. However, genetic testing at conception can be used for good. If it had been done to my 24 year old sister in law, we would have found out that she has a rare genetic mutation on the 5th Chromosone - and has a disease that has caused nearly 1,000 pre-cancerous polyps to be formed in her colon. ((She is going in for surgery next week for full colon removal at age 24))

Thankfully a chain of events lead to the colonoscopy that found them before it was too late.
