Is the news becoming more like tabloid news papers?
« on: September 13, 2012, 12:51:11 am »
I keep reading these stories online from news sources all over.  Yahoo, Fox, MSN, CNN and so on...  They all have the same thing going on.  They'll say (making up a name) Mike Franco crashes car into a coffee shop and SURVIVES!  Then, it has a little quote that will say something along the lines of, "I can't believe it was possible".  So, you click on the link and read that he barely bumped over the sidewalk, into say an outside umbrella, knocked it over; and later on down the story there's a customer who's quoted as saying, "I can't believe it was possible" in reference to being able to ask for two cups of cream for his coffee.  It's like what the heck.....why did I even click on this story.

I mainly watched cable news shows when I had cable and eventually got sick to my stomach and stopped watching them all together. I no longer have cable and I'm glad. There's no need for 24 hour news shows. They eventually start trying to compete with entertainment shows and just end up spewing garbage all day. This is why there are exaggerate headlines and stories on tv and in the paper (online "papers" especially). It's ridiculous.

We are being done an extreme disservice. The news should inform people but it just makes them dumber.

I have noticed that also and the magazines are all advertising now and no good articles any more.

Most stories seem to be about getting into famous people's business. Blah blah give me some real news.

Hard to find real news on the TV anymore just like its really hard to find weather reports on the Weather Channel.  All the channels want to do anymore is get into "reality" situations that are about as "unreal" as you can get. We watch Fox News and Fox Business mostly and sometimes even that gets ridiculous!  I hardly ever read any of the news streaming across my computer.

i have to agree with you. I think that they try so hard to make everyone happy and be politically correct that they forget the real stories. I hate the news though. It's so depressing I don't like to watch it. Then they stick in the happy story of the day and that is supposed to make me feel better about everything that is happening?? I think people gravitate to "reality tv" and gossip shows because it's easier to watch than the news. Most of it isn't true anyway, even "reality tv"- come on, give me a break people!! and you can't even get the weather on the weather channel anymore, there are so many shows there too

I also agree with your premise.  Journalists aren't held to high standards anymore.

I agree most of it is garbage. Lies and untruths are the norm anymore. It really makes it hard to know what is going on with the election anymore. All i know is i don;t want 4 more years of what we have had. I fear either way trouble is comming.

You are absolutely correct.  I absolutely do not care what celebrities do and the mainstream media is jumping all over them.  Ridiculous.
