Opinion: Should kids go to school year round?

What do you think about year round school? I perosonally am all for it, but am curious about what others think.

no,  they need a break they have the rest of their lives to work year round.

Kids do need a break. They get time off at Christmas and some even get a spring break. That is already more time off than many adults get in a year. If school is to prepare kids for life as an adult, they should know that entire summers off is not a reality. I'm all for school year-round.

I think kids should go year round.  They get a break over Christmas, then a spring break, and give them a summer break (another week), but that's it.  Sorry kids, but in the real world, unless you're a teacher, no one gets the entire summer off.  So when you finish school be ready to work in the summer so get used to it now!

I believe that children should go to school year round.  I don't think that it will ever happen because our country really doesn't care about the education level of our students.  Administrators pretend that they do but I think that this is all a front.  I have a thirteen year old and a fifteen year old.  My fifteen year old is a go-getter, takes all AP/honors classes and is one that I don't have to worry about because she is so focused.  My thirteen year old is not as focused and the teachers really don't push homework or goals...I am in charge of that. I spend about threee thousand dollars a year on each child for books, activities and sports that used to be picked up by the schools.

No Way!!   Parents and kids alike both need a break!!!!   Love the summers off!

I don't think so. I feel they need a break too. While their on break parents can sill give the some form of studying see he won't slack off.

With all the breaks that kids have now I think going to school year round would be a good thing, but I don't see it ever happening.

I don't think so and I'd also like to vote for no homework before 7th grade.  That's the way it was when I was a kid and we learned just fine during school hours.  Kids need exercise more than they need extra school work.

It is not as bad as it sounds.  They still go the same amount of time.  They just get a shorter summer break and have more breaks during the year.  I kind of think it would be a good thing.  That's pretty much what they are doing.  Ours only got 2 months off this summer.  We use to get off at least 3 when I was a kid.

yes school should be year round.  they do get breaks during the year for holidays and what not.  That way they may get higher test scores and it does prepare them for the work force I also think that at least one day a week high schools make them intern at a job so they can get some work ethic.  Kids now adays don't want to do anything but play games, do drugs and who knows what else.  They expect their parents to pay for everything.

No I don't believe so.  Kids need time to be kids, they're not little adults.  Time enough to work full time when they're grown.

I think it would be great but of a different type. It would have to be completely recreational teaching them fun and practical skills like jewelry making and carpentry. All kinds of things that would be fun and interesting to them. They could also take trips go to museums, swimming, take dance lessons and things like that but it shouldn't be mandatory. It would have to be fun for them and no homework!
