Should baseball players on steroids make hall of fame?
« on: August 30, 2012, 12:17:21 pm »
No.  I think it sends the wrong kind of messeage to younger generations that are hopeful to get into it one day.  It isn’t a ‘sign of the times’.  It says if you wanna be great and into the hall of fame you need to use drugs.’   Not the kind of thing baseball (or any sport for that matter) should promote.

No.  Very disrespectful to all the greats that made it in ‘naturally’.  They were just that good and didn’t need drugs to prove it.  That is something to admire.  Anyone can take steroids to be great.  Being great naturally that is something to be honored.

No. I don’t think steroid takers like A-rod should make the hall of fame simply because of Pete Rose.  My grandfather (a die-hard Yankee fan, WWII vet) believes that because Rose threw games as a manager to win bets he made against his own team he shouldn’t be allowed in despite his record as a player.  My younger brother also a (die-hard Yankee fan) believes what he did as a manager should have no bearing on what he did as a player and believes Pete Rose should get in.  My point is that if the hall of fame denies Rose (to which the worst thing he did was gamble and as a manager not a player) how can they let in players like A-Rod?  If gambling (especially the way Rose went about it) is believed it sets the wrong example then what kind of message does steroids send?

I don't think so.  Being in The Hall of Fame is a privilege.  Those on steroids did not earn the privilege fairly.

I think that if the rules specifically out law the use of certain substances in any sport/job than the person using them, against the rules, should be barred from any kind of reward.  Atheletes are paid well enough to saty away from substances and chances are they were brought in when they were clean.  It isn't fair to the people who attack tasks and succeed while following the rules.  Allowing someone to break the rules gives a lesson to all that cheating is acceptable.  Where do we draw the line?  It's okay to cheat on your spouse, break laws whenever we like?

Absolutely not!  There's more to banned substances than just steroids, even some of the whey proteins/supplement stacks used by bodybuilders are off limits (which is cheating, something I find highly offensive).  Baseball players are fully aware of which ones are forbidden.  If they can't follow the rules, they should not be given the rewards.
