Christmas isn't Christmas anymore!!!!

I feel the same way that Christmas is not Christmas anymore.  I find that it is hard to get into  Christmas this year.  I have tried to play Christmas music, but I just cry about bad things that happens.

Working in retail will do that to you! Every year we get Christmas stuff in July and we work so hard to prepare for one holiday that it's over before you can actually enjoy it and then it's on to the next holiday. Not to mention how mean people can be to you when your just trying to do your job...oh yeah and the pay is so bad you can even afford to do the fun stuff

Christmas is as each individual makes it. When I was a child and heard there was no Santa Claus, I asked my mother.  Her answer; "as long as you have the spirit of loving and giving, as well as have the capability of accepting and receiving, anyone can be Santa Claus." How do you argue with that?  Santa, the spirit of giving and love, is all around you if you just open your eyes.

I love Christmas !!!! Yes it was more exciting when my kids were younger, but even as adults its nice to watch them open their gifts, and now that I have grandchildren its really exciting again.

It's not the same as it was, for me, but I attribute that to living away from home now. When I was at home, it was easy to get in the spirit whenever my parents started getting stuff out. Now that I'm on my own, I have to do it myself, and it's hard to get into that spirit. But I'm trying.

For those of you who have lost the Christmas spirit, try volunteering in a shelter or soup kitchen!

I love Christmas.  I am old and have no children but come from a strong family oriented  family.  We all love Jesus and love celebrating his birth.

Well I know what  you mean.  Since my grandmother died a year and 1/2 ago we haven't really celebrated christmas.  A lot of the family members no longer associate and we really haven't had the money for presents (not that is all that important a part) but we do have a nice meal together and this year we are going to be with friends who feed the homeless.

I know what you mean, to me they feel too commercial. I decided I would recreate the whimsical feeling I felt when I was a child. Don't listen to those dried up cynical people who want to poo poo every good feeling anyone feels. They're not happy so they want to make things miserable for you. Forget them do everything you want and make your holidays as happy as they can be.

You are not the only one who feels this way. I use to be so excited for christmas but it seems like it is not there anymore. I just don't get all excited for it as when I was in my teens.

Christmas will always be Christmas because it is the celebration of God becoming incarnate in order to reconcile men to Himself. Unfortunately we humans have made the celebration for ourselves than to thank Him. Stick with the spiritual celebration and allow the "homemade" celebrations to be extra and maybe you will enjoy it more.

you would have to believe in christmas for this too be true. i dont believe althou i do celebrate chirstmas but more as a materialed holiday.

Maybe if we were all poor it would mean more, haha but whatever it is we lost, we need to get it back because holidays are meant to be fun, consider staying home on holidays and relaxing rather than running around and at the end being surprised you got through it because that is not what holidays were meant for.

As the Christmas season approaches I can't help but to wonder why I don't feel excited anymore. Many claim that it is because this is a holiday mainly enjoyed more during a persons childhood. Normally by August I am ready to start my shopping, and I'm asking my kids what they want. But for the last three years I just haven't been in the spirit. It's not just Christmas though. Easter, Thanksgiving, and some of the other holidays that I use to cherish just aren't appealing to me anymore. Is it just me? The holidays just aren't the holidays anymore.

I have the same way or feeling that you have but we'll need to give our heart strong and active. I will pray for all of us joining you too!!

It's because the real meaning of these holidays are gone....everyone everywhere are wanting God out of everything.  Without Christ, there would be no Christmas.  Without Christ, there would be no Easter.....without Christ, there probably wouldn't even be Thanksgiving because it was FAITH that brought us to the new world orginally.  Put the reason back into the holidays and the joy will come back.  Living for self always leaves us empty in the end.  There is no real joy without Jesus!
