Usually I just ignore the issue even though some days it really irritates me. Sometimes I will gently point out that they might get more/better responses by posting on another board. Are we helping the situation when we point it out nicely or are we just cluttering the boards more?

I think I've done it once or twice but I just don't pay it any mind and move on to another post.

I think that most times (NOT always) it probably DOES NOT make any difference (help the situation);
I think there are many people who won't pay any attention to the advice or suggestion, and some others probably don't care.

I don't think that it clutters the boards more, as it isn't a NEW thread that you're starting, it is a response to a thread that's already opened/started.

How come it won't play?

Several times when I've read an out of place post, it is obvious that it is a new person or someone who just doesn't get it!  I'm not the type of person that would point this out to them.  It's like honking the horn at somebody who doesn't step on the gas the exact second that the light turns green.  Give them a chance!

While this IS true, maybe pointing it out would help the poster to understand where and how to post correctly (or "get it").

Many times I also see people posting in the completely wrong area, that have been posting on the forum for a long time.

I don't think it's the same as honking at someone to GO when the light changes, as honking at them isn't helpful advice.

No. I never point it out. I have made this mistake before and was berated for it by a few members. :-   So for this reason I opt to leave others alone because I know how it feels.  We are all human and we make mistakes. Besides, It's just not that big of a deal.  :dontknow:

That's probably due to fifth amendment-type concerns.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.
